  2. BAPTISMS CONFERENCE THEME “Revisiting the foundations of our faith.” SCRIPTURE REFERENCES ON THEME 1Cor. 3:11; Ps. 11:3 ;2Tim. 2:19

  3. THE 6 FOUNDATIONAL DOCTRINES OF THE CHRISTIAN FAITH Heb. 6:1-3 • REPENTANCE FROM DEAD WORKS • FAITH TOWARD GOD • BAPTISMS • LAYING ON OF HANDS • RESURRECTION OF THE DEAD • ETERNAL JUDGEMENT NOTE! No new revelation(s) from God can annul the above.

  4. MINISTRY OF JOHN THE BAPTIST Heralding Of Baptisms In The New Testament Luke 3:1-21

  5. WHAT IT MEANS/IMPLIES TO BE BAPTIZED There are 3 greek words translated ‘baptism’ in the New Testament: • Baptizo-To immerse; To submerge • Baptismos-To Wash • Bapto-To Overwhelm; To cover fully with a fluid

  6. 3 MAIN TYPES OF BAPTISMS IN THE SCRIPTURES • WATER BAPTISM -Symbolic of baptism into Christ & His Body -Symbolizes public identification with Christ • HOLY SPIRIT BAPTISM -To empower for divine service • BAPTISM OF SUFFERING - Not sufferings due to one’s fault, but for Christ’s cause-(1 Pet. 4:12-16) -Grace to stand firm in the faith, carry the cross of Christ & readiness to bring God’s purpose to pass at any cost to us. (Mk. 10:35-40; Luke 14: 25-33; Col. 1:24; 2 Tim. 3:12) • NOTE! Christ partook of all 3: (Mark. 1:9-11; Luke 3:21-22; Matthew 26: 36-42) • Emphasis shall be on the WATER & HOLY SPIRIT Baptisms here

  7. OUTWARD EVIDENCE OF THE 2 BAPTISMS IN BELIEVER’S LIFE(What Things Others Should See In Us To Evidence The 2 Baptisms) • WATER- 2 Cor. 5: 17; Gal. 3:26-28 -Changed life -Boldness to identify with Christ -Commitments to every cause of Christ • HOLY SPIRIT- 1 Cor. 4:20; Acts 1: 8 -Power for service -Power for spiritual warfare

  8. INSTANCES OF THE 2 BAPTISMS IN SCRIPTURES • WATER Luke 3:2-3; Acts 8:34-38 • HOLY SPIRIT Acts 2:1-4; Acts 8:14-18; Acts 19:1-6

  9. SPEAKING IN OTHER TONGUES & THE BELIEVER 2 Kinds/Levels of speaking in other tongues: • As an OUTWARD EVIDENCE of Holy Spirit Baptism-1 Cor. 14:1-3 2. As one of 9 GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT-1 Cor. 12:7-12

  10. NECESSARY CLARIFICATIONS ON THE BAPTISMS(1 Cor. 14:8) WATER BAPTISM • It is a PUBLIC ‘initiation’ into the Body of Christ • It is the work of the Holy Spirit to baptize one into Christ • Servants of God are merely human instruments to teach & perform the baptism • Pouring water on the head is not the biblical pattern of baptism

  11. Biblical pattern of baptism is ‘by immersion’-(Acts 8:35-36) • Any purported ‘baptism’ without a clear understanding & experience of the new birth have no standing before God-(Luke 3:3) • Baptizing infants is unscriptural & not recognized before God • Water baptism cannot be by proxy (Being baptized on behalf of another)

  12. HOLY SPIRIT BAPTISM • Christ is the baptizer with the Holy Spirit • God’s Servants only teach & assist your faith • Holy Spirit baptism may be received before OR after water baptism-But after NEW birth • Holy Spirit baptism is not ‘for show’, BUT: 1. For spiritual service 2. For power to reveal Christ to the world 3. For assistance in prayer life-(Rom. 8:26) 4. For building personal spiritual life

  13. RECEIVING THE HOLY SPIRIT BAPTISM(Luke 11:9-11) • There are 3 basic requirements: • READINESS OF HEART • FAITH-Believe & Receive as a gift from God • PRAYERS-Ask God definitely

  14. CONCLUSION There are 2 experiences with the Holy Spirit every believer in Christ needs to have in order to be of any significant use in God’s Kingdom. • THE INITIAL EXPERIENCE-Acts 2:4 (With evidence of speaking with other tongues, preferably NOW or possibly LATER 2. THE CONTINOUS EXPERIENCE-Jude20 (For Service & Warfare) -Eph. 5:18
