  2. Fizzing • Materials • 250 ml beaker • Vinegar • Baking soda • Computer • Temperature probe

Directions • Follow the teacher’s directions for connecting the temperature probe to the computer and starting Logger Pro • Go to my website and click on Matter  Activities • Under Chemical Reaction Lab click on Temperature #1 and save the file to the desktop • Open the Temperature #1 file in Logger Pro

  4. Directions • Put 25 ml of vinegar in the beaker • Put the temperature probe in the vinegar so it doesn’t move • Start the graph, wait 20 seconds, and then put in ½ spoon of baking soda • Stop the graph after 1 minute

  5. Questions • Sketch the graph from the computer and label the x and y axis. • Initial temperature: • Final temperature: • Change in temperature: • Did the mixture get colder, hotter, or stay the same? • Is this an endothermic or exothermic reaction?

  6. Clean Up • Pour out the vinegar and baking soda mixture in the sink and rinse it down with water. • Rinse the beaker out with water. • Return the baking soda and vinegar.

  7. Fantastic Foamy Fountain • Materials • 250 ml beaker • 100 ml beaker • Hydrogen peroxide • Container • Dry yeast • Dish washing soap • Food coloring

  8. Directions • Click on Data  Clear All Data • Put the 250 ml beaker in the container

  9. Directions (continued) • Add 25 ml of hydrogen peroxide to the 250 ml beaker. • Add 3drops of food coloring. • Add one squirt of dishwashing liquid to the hydrogen peroxide and swirl gently for a few seconds. • Put the temperature probe in this mixture.

  10. Directions (continued) • Add 50 ml of water to the 100 ml beaker. • Add ½ spoon of dry yeast. • Swirl the yeast and water for 30 seconds • Start the graph and at 20 seconds pour the yeast and water mixture into the hydrogen peroxide mixture. • Let the graph run for 1 minute.

  12. Clean Up • Rinse out the yeast and water beaker. • Pour the contents of the 200 ml beaker into the sink and rinse it down with water. • Clean the 200 ml beaker with a brush and the cleaning powder. • Return both beakers, dishwashing liquid, hydrogen peroxide, and food coloring the front table.

  13. Clean Up (continued) • Rinse off the temperature probe. • Disconnect all of the parts of the temperature probe and bring it all to the front table. • Returned the computer to the back. • Wipe your area well. • Return your goggles to the back counter.
