  2. Essential Question for today The demands of our global society and of the Common Core require a different type of teaching and learning. How will your student questioning need to change to meet these demands?

  4. Why focus PD on questioning? • Common Core  shift. • Consider the process. • Quality Questioning is the primary catalyst. • Cannot be “left to chance” or be developed “on the fly”.

  8. Things to think about with the type and process of questioning… • Revisit Bloom’s Taxonomy • Share/discuss in PLC. • Classroom norms about questioning. • Teach the norms to your students (practice). • Reinforce norms.

  10. Save the Last Word • Create a group of 4 participants. Choose a timekeeper who has a watch/phone. (optional: Choose a recorder to record ideas from the group.) • Each participant silently identifies what she/he considers to be the most significant idea addressed in the reading/article. • When the group is ready, a volunteer member identifies the point in the reading/article that she/he found to be most significant and reads it out loud to the group. The first person says nothing about why she/he chose that particular point. • The recorder types this point/idea/quote. • The other 3 participants each have 1 minute to respond to that idea. • The first participant then has 3 minutes to state why she/he chose that point and to respond to his/her colleagues based on what she/he heard. • The same pattern is followed until all four members of the group have had a chance to have “the last word.” • The recorder makes sure she/he has each person’s point/idea/quote documented on 1 sheet and emails it to Kathy to compile everyone’s points.
