Opioids in America

The ongoing opioid crisis in the United States is the biggest epidemic to have hit the country since the HIV epidemic. It has become a national crisis that keeps spreading like wildfire, leaving only ruin in its wake and claiming hundreds of thousands of lives. From 1999 to 2013, opioids have claimed 175000 lives. In 2013 alone, 16235 deaths were attributed to an opioid overdose, while that number spiked to more than 33000 in 2015. Today, more than 90 Americans die every day due to an opioid overdose, and the number keeps rising at a very fast pace, which is precisely why this crisis must be dealt with right now.
