  1. Proper Club Structures Munster GAA – ‘Club Voice Day’ November 7th 2009

  2. Club Committee structure All clubs need to have a committee structure in place to help them in the organisation and the management of club activities. Every club is required by rule to have a Club Executive Committee. Clubs may also have a number of sub-committees in place to help with certain aspects of administration and activity.

  3. The Club Executive Committee The club Executive Committee is the controlling body of the club, managing the business and affairs of the club (rule 7.1 club constitution). Members of the Executive are elected at the club AGM each year and it is essential that the Executive Committee is active and well managed.

  4. Executive Committee - Rule The Club Executive Committee must comprise of club officers and members as set out in rule 7.2 of the club constitution, outlined as follows: 7.2 The Executive Committee shall be comprised of the Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary, Registrar, one Players’ Representative, PRO, Cultural and Language Officer and at least five other Full Members.

  5. Club Executive Committee Clubs should keep in mind that a big number on the Executive does not necessarily mean that the Executive will operate more efficiently. It is recommended that each member of the Club Executive committee should have specific responsibility for some aspect of activity within the Club. Role of the AGM of a Club is to elect the Executive Committee to administer and manage the business and affairs of the club.

  6. Advantages of Sub-Committees One of the most effective methods of sharing and delegating work in the club is through the appointment of Sub-Committees. Valuable way to involve a large number of Club members. Allow decision making by a smaller group – faster decisions. Allow members with specific area of interest to concentrate on area. Helps to delegate and share the workload.

  7. Appointment of Sub-Committees Take charge of one aspect of Clubs activities. Appointed by Executive Committee. Advisable to appoint member of Executive as Chairperson. Executive Committee defines duties and retains control. Maximum of 5 members recommended and regular reporting.

  8. How many Sub-Committees? This is a decision for each individual Club. Sub-Committees can work effectively allowing the Executive to concentrate on other areas. Examples of Sub-Committees: Club na n-Óg ( Clubs Juvenile Section ) Finance / Fundraising Games Development /Coaching Membership & Registration Social & Cultural Pitch Maintenance Youth & Child Protection Communications / PR

  9. Club Development Club Development Plan – Critical to having a proper Club Structure as it give the Club a focus and a direction. The process of Strategic Planning allows a Club to decide: Where we are now? Where we want to be? How we will get there? Successful Club Development generates pride in the Club and its members. This in turn leads to a well managed and properly structured Club.
