Core Information • 4 Credit Class • Meets Monday and Wednesday evenings • Expect Saturday Practice Sessions • Course Fee $470 • This fee includes the text and workbook • Expect other fees! • Practical Exam Fee ($100 cash at exam) • National Registry Exam and Registration Fee $75 • Class Polo $15 estimated • Class size limited to 20-25

  8. Core Information • EMT Certification does not improve your chances of Medical School Admission • Skills learned may aid in Med School experience • EMT experience can be helpful to Physician Assistant programs

  9. Core Information • Course Completion vs State/National Certification • You may complete the course and receive credit, and elect to not become certified

Certification EXAMS • Classroom Final Written exam • Practical Exam • Provided with the course • Skill stations and scenario driven • Both Required to pass class • National Registry Written Exam • Computer adaptive testing • Not available locally • Nearest locations include Alexandria, Twin Cities, Hutchinson, Willmar

Admission to Class • Course size is limited • Primary source of membership for EMT Squad • Complete questionnaire from EMT Website • Meet with Coordinator Oct 24 • Sign Up sheet available at Life Safety Dispatch • Students accepted to the class will be notified via email on Monday October 25th • Wait list will be generated.

  12. Admission Criteria • Preference given in this order: (current) Sophomore, First Year Student, Junior, Senior • Equal chances for CSB/SJU Students • Preference given to genuine interest in EMT Squad membership • Preference given to clarity of how this course fits into career plans • Preference given to St John’s Firefighters • Late applications will not be accepted • Falsification or inaccurate information will result in disqualification of the individual

  13. What counts against me… • Credit Overload • Difficult academic schedule • Lack of evidence of understanding what your getting yourself into!

  14. Study Abroad • Current Students wishing to take the EMT course who are studying abroad can complete an extended questionaire available via email • Request questionaire from Coordinator

  15. What if I’m selected… • Register for your other courses • Do nothing  Registration for the EMT course is by instructor permission only. • Professional CPR • Mantoux Test • Hep B Shots

  16. What if I’m NOT selected… • Never fear! • Register for your full class load. • Have game plan which course you’d drop if given the chance. • Last 2 years MUCH movement from wait list to class
