Stakeholders and AdvocacyTappan Zee Scoping Session • Public Notice of Facilitated Scoping Session • For the Tappan Zee Hudson River Crossing Project • Date: Tuesday, March 6, 2012 • Time: 4:30 – 5:55 PM • Location: Pace University, Goldstein Academic Center, Room 100 • Commissioner John Cronin of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and Commissioner Theresa Lant of the New York State Department of Transportation will conduct a facilitated scoping session with selected stakeholder groups to solicit information regarding the potential effects and benefits of the Tappan Zee Hudson River Crossing Project. • About the Project

Glen Breuning • John Cronin, Senior Fellow Pace Academy • Student Team Proposals and Debate • each team will construct its own proposal to "require, assure or foster regional planning, environmental protection, cultural heritage preservation and sustainable economic development in the Hudson River Valley and watershed." Your team proposal can be for a formal state or federal agency, a state or multi-state commission, a government-appointed or citizen-based regional advisory board, or any other idea you may have. You can propose anything from a governing body with far-reaching regulatory authority to volunteer citizen's group that simply researches and reports its findings.

What did we learn? • Challenges and opportunities • Works if faculty truly collaborate as a team • This is possible with the right commitment of faculty across the schools • Learned about each other’s areas • It was fun! • One course model is difficult for students in a number of ways • Assessment • Lack of time on topic

What did the students think? • Great idea – more time! • “We had a great course but being able to SEE and immerse ourselves into the areas of the Hudson River such as Storm King (up close) and learn about that important case while also reliving the different parts of the river mentioned in "World's End" would be extremely noteworthy. In regards to science and technology, seeing different monitoring stations and actually collecting data and researching hands-on would be more appealing and a huge learning experience. I would fully endorse a Hudson River Semester because of the sheer nature of the "hands-on" aspect of the course we took. “
