  4. Veneer Edge Banding Rolls Veneer is an excellent and economical alternative to solid wood. Nowadays, most of the sheets are cut rotatively with the pressure of a wide cutting blade against a rotating log. The trunk is placed between the centers of what is basically a huge winch, and the sheet is detached as if the trunk were a giant roll of paper towels. Lowe's is pleased to provide you with this information as a service. The typical thicknesses for veneer range from 1/100" to 1/28". The thinnest material is used to make flexible or reinforced veneer. The thickest layer (often called common or natural veneer) has no backing and is available in many species and sizes. Sold by the square foot, it comes in random widths and lengths. Even the thickest veneers are used as internal cores in the manufacture of plywood. Flexible veneers are quickly becoming more popular than normal, and for good reason - it is much easier to work with. Because flexible veneer is thinner than normal, it is reinforced with a backing that allows it to bend around a smaller radius without disturbance. In fact, it is so flexible that it is sold in rolls. This type is available in widths of 12", 24", 36" and 48" and lengths of 4' or 8'. It is cut off from domestic forests such as ash, maple, cherry, walnut, pine, red and white oak and birch. Some exotics, such as mahogany and teak, are also available. Another useful veneer product is the edge band, which is essentially veneer strips wrapped in rolls. You can quickly transform a standard piece of plywood into a solid wood panel by applying edgebanding. The rollers are available in widths of 5/8", 3/4", 7/8" and 2" and in lengths of 8', 25', 50' and 250'. They can be found in the same species as the flexible veneer. Wide Range

  5. Using Edge Banding There are various techniques to apply Edge Banding: a real wood veneer. This can be as simple as the gluing method or the "edge-iron" method or apply it with edge-band machine and then flush it to the top edge of the plywood. The method of gluing allows the builder to use an attractive edge design. But the downside is that it consumes a lot of time compared to the use of an iron band material on edge. Applying Edge Banding The width of the edge bandage is usually taken more than the plywood sheet, for example 7/8" edge banding is used to cover ¾" thick plywood / MDF sheet. Not just width, but the length of the edge band is taken an inch longer. Here the overhang (length and width) of the edge banding is neatly and simply trimmed to the surface of the wood sheet. An Iron- On-Edge method is the easiest and most straightforward of all, most commonly used. Here, a veneer roll of good quality iron sheet is used, that is, a clean surface and a good thick layer of glue on the other side. Turakhia Overseas Pvt. Ltd.
