Handshake with the experiments

This document outlines the procedures for the handshake phases of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) experiments, specifically focusing on the injection, adjust, and beam dump phases. Key points include automatic removal of the ATLAS injection permit under specific conditions and manual override options. Additionally, it discusses the transition from unstable beams to beam dump phases, emphasizing when handshake procedures are necessary. The document aims to optimize the operational safety and efficiency of LHC experiments managed by R. Alemany from the BE/OP/LHC team.

  1. Handshake with the experiments R. Alemany (BE/OP/LHC) LHC Experiments Handshake

  2. INJECTION PHASE R. Alemany (BE/OP/LHC) LHC Experiments Handshake

  3. INJECTION PHASE

  4. ATLAS injection permit is removed automatically if: • BCM/BLM not operational • SCT/Pixel/ muons on running voltage • Roman Pots IN • STABLE BEAM FLAG = TRUE • Post Mortem event received • ATLAS injection permit can be removed manually (ACR button) if: • Abnormal beam conditions are observed during injection R. Alemany (BE/OP/LHC) LHC Experiments Handshake

  5. ADJUST PHASE Notes: 1. From ADJUST to BEAM DUMP no handshake is needed because the detectors are already in safe mode. R. Alemany (BE/OP/LHC) LHC Experiments Handshake

  6. BEAM DUMP PHASE Notes: 1. From UNSTABLE BEAMS to BEAM DUMP do handshake whenever is possible, i.e. if not an emergency dump 2. We question the need of the beam mode BEAM DUMP WARNING, the experiments don’t need it, handshake is enough. It may disappear from the MODE diagram R. Alemany (BE/OP/LHC) LHC Experiments Handshake
