ASSISTING FARMERS • Agricultural Adjustment Act: lower production to raise crop prices • Gvt paid farmers to leave certain amounts of acreage of land unseeded • Paid cotton growers $200 million to plow under 10 million acres of their crop • Paid hog farmers to slaughter 6 million pigs • Upset Americans • Put more money in farmers’ pockets

Assisting Workers • Civilian Conservation Corps: put men to work -small wage -many camps located on Great Plains • Federal Emergency Relief Administration: provided direct relief for needy -Harry Hopkins headed program • Public Works Admin: gave $$$ to states to create jobs -failed to aid unemployment • Roosevelt est. Civil Works Administration: provided 4 million immediate jobs

  4. National Industrial Recovery Act: promote industrial growth • Estcodes of fair practice for individual industries, standard working hours, child labor ban • Tennessee Valley Authority: created jobs and renovated the TN River Valley

  5. Assisting Homeowners • Home Owners Loan Corporation: provided gvt loans to homeowners who faced foreclosure • National Housing Act created Federal Housing Administration: furnishes loans for home mortgages and repairs
