MEDICAL COMMISSION • Members: • Haris Pavletic, M.D. (Croatia), chairman • Kati Korjus, M.D. (Estonia), member • Timo Hinrichs, M.D. (Germany), member • Duties: • Create and propose medical policy for EUC-s • Supervise following tasks on EUC-s: • medical care of participants • to advise the EUC OC about all matters related to hygiene and catering • doping control (if needed)

EUC 2009 – General Duty of the Organising Committee: Create European Universities Championship Medical Committee (EUC MC) • EUC MC for the following sports (shall) will consist of: • team sports (futsal, football, rugby seven's, basketball, handball, volleyball): 3 members: • EUSA Medical Commission delegate (EUSA MC) • medical officer (OC) • substitute of the medical officer (OC) • individual sports (badminton, tennis, table tennis, bridge, sailing, beach volleyball, rowing): 2 members: • medical officer (OC) • substitute of the medical officer (OC)

  4. EUC 2009 – General • Duties of the EUC MC: • medical care of participants; • to advise the Organizing Committee about all matters related to hygiene and catering; • doping control (if needed)

EUC 2009 – Medical coverage • Medical coverage is provided: • In all sports venues • In all official accommodation sites • All venues must have Medical team on duty during the competition games and optional during the training hours. • Medical team will consist of: • Medical team leader (trained physician) • Medical staff (preferably nurses, paramedics or medical students)

  6. EUC 2009 – Catering The food provided at EUC-s needs to fulfil the requirements of athletes from different countries competing at different times of the day. Variety and flexibility are important aspects of the menu. Dieticians should get involved in the menu planning process. Carbohydrate and sodium enriched drinks should be available for athletes to consume to maintain their hydration during training and competition.

EUC 2009 – Catering Example: Breakfast: Cereals, toast, bread, bread rolls, baked beans, poached or scrambled eggs, fruit salad, fruits (bananas, apples, peaches), yoghurt, pancakes, honey, jam, cheese, ham, margarine, butter Lunch/Dinner: Sandwiches, pasta/noodle dishes with different sauces, rice dishes, soup, bread, meat (e.g. beef/lamb/pork or poultry), vegetables, salad (e.g. tomatoes, lettuce, corn) Drinks: With the meals: juice, tea, coffee, milk, water At the accommodation and at the competition venues: water, sports drinks (Provide extra water and sports drinks in case of heat and humidity!) Snacks: Yoghurt, fruits, sandwiches, cereal bars

  8. EUC 2009 – Hygiene • Every participant or EUSA family member must be provided with the following: • Towels (at least two which are regularly cleaned) • Shower gel for regular use • Toilette paper for regular use Rooms must be cleaned at least every three days with sheet change and regular cleaning.
