Organization of the Plant Biology 2019 PUI Career Panel Karen Hicks, Catharina Coenen 3. Initiation of the PUI section mentoring network Karen Hicks, Catharina Coenen 4. Awarded an NSF conference grant ($41,061) Maryann Herman, the PUI section steering committee, and ASPB staff 5. Reorganized leadership structure and elected a new steering committee member

Section Probationary Period “After approval of the petition by the council and the board of directors, the section may organize under probationary status for three years, after which the board of directors will approve or disapprove permanent status, or extend the probationary status for an additional three years. If a section fails to be approved for permanent status after the second probation, it shall be disbanded.” “Any section which fails to maintain a minimum number of active members of the Society equal to one percent of the voting Society membership shall have its representation on the council terminated.” Source: ASPB Constitution https://aspb.org/about/constitution/

ASPB Council and Membership Committee Report Leeann Thornton -talked about the officer nomination process and ways to improve transparency -elected Laura Wayne as the representative from Council to the Board of Directors. -learned about the ASPB Forward project; professional development is a common theme across all sections/committees. -ASPB wants more coordinated efforts between sections and committees; synergy. -there were questions for us about whether we want to be involved in planning the UG session at the conference. -ASPB budget: working towards more sustainable use of funds.

  10. 2019 PUI Workshop Survey: PUI section question (54 respondents) Writing a conference grant proposal to fund activities at the national meeting and travel grants for faculty involves a significant amount of time and effort for the PUI section leadership. In the future, should we pursue grants for our national meetings and travel grants? Strongly Agree: 38/54 Agree: 16/54
