  2. Welcome back! You all have discourses assigned… • Problems or questions about the discourses? • Do you disagree with your discourse? Is there one that you find more attractive?

  3. Debate structure/grading • In-class debate (20% of course grade) • Argue in favor of a specific environmental discourse, from Dryzek’s “The Politics of the Earth.” Why is your assigned discourse the superior perspective for tackling environmental challenges? Be ready to offer rebuttal to classmate’s positions.

  4. Debate structure Presentation - 5 minutes per student • Total time: 30-45 minutes (depending on tutorial class size) • Each student will argue why their discourse or sub-discourse is capable of solving the world’s environmental problems. This would be a general presentation, citing examples of how the discourse has been successful. Rebuttal - 2 minutes per student • Case study topic – reintroduction of wild tigers to China • Total time:12-18 minutes (depending on tutorial class size): 1. A random student will be selected to start answering the question: What would be good and/or bad about reintroducing Tigers to the wild in China based on your assigned discourse’s position? 2. Rebuttal period: what is positive/negative about that position, and subsequent discourse positions?

  5. Grading Grading breakdown  • 5 points – demonstrated comprehensive awareness of assigned environmental discourse, citing one example (or maybe two, if time permits) of how their discourse has been successful. • 5 points – offered a rebuttal or counterpoint to at least one student during the case study portion of the debate.
