  3. Objectives of Forum(Anticipated Outcomes) • Promote multicore research - forming a consortium including academia and industry • UIUC – Universal Parallel Computing Research Center (UPCRC) (http://www.upcrc.uiuc.edu) – (The UPCRC Agenda, 2008) • UC Berkeley – Parallel Computing Lab (http://parlab.eecs.berkeley.edu) – (List of current research projects) • Identify research focuses and interests – forming sub-interest groups • Build common/shared system research infrastructures – a CIC-like organization • Facilitate domestic/international research collaboration: Initiate a local annual multicore research workshop

  4. Lunch Meeting Agenda Follow-UP Actions List

  5. Action Item - 1 • Forming a research consortium • UIUC or UCB model? Or something else? • Need to identify agenda, objectives and memberships • Identify sub-interest groups • Systems research – architectures, compilers, OS, virtualization, security, low power • System design methodologies/support – simulation, CAD • Programming support – debugging, testing, prog. models • Applications – multimedia, embedded applications, games, cloud comuting • Identify a lead person • Establish a time-line/schedule for its formation

  6. Action Item - 2 • Build a community-shared system research support infrastructure • In what form? CIC-like? Or something else? • What should be its missions? • Compilers, simulators, OS, virtualization software, programming support tools, etc. • Licensing, tutorials, documentations, consulting • Where to get its financial support? • Identify a lead person for this action item • Establish a time-line/schedule for its formation

  7. Action Item - 3 • Establish an annual research workshop on multicore research • A new workshop? Or expand existing one (e.g. CTHPC)? Or tag onto existing one (e.g. VLSI-CAD)? • Research papers/abstracts/posters/demos (w/ or w/o proceedings)? • Tutorials for software, hot research subjects • Invited international keynote speakers • Discussion panels on hot issues • Programming or systems research competitions • Identify a lead person, name and date of the workshop
