  2. Overview • The Wadden Sea is a sub-section of the North Sea, covering the northern sea shore of Germany and the Netherlands. • The waters of the Wadden Sea are of the Arctic Ocean. Reasons for Inclusion • The Wadden Sea fulfils three of the ten criteria used to select UN World Heritage Sites: • To record a major stage in Earth’s history; • To represent an ongoing development of life on Earth; • To contain significant natural habitats and exhibit biological diversity.
