The district anticipates critical shortages in the teaching and administrative ranks over the next five years due to increased student enrollment and the opening of new schools, projected retirements, a competitive job market and competing priorities. Advanced Coaching Academy Effective coaches need professional learning that ensures they understand how to navigate the complexities of helping adults, have a deep understanding of a comprehensive, focused set of teaching practices, communicate effectively, lead effective, and work in systems that foster meaningful professional learning (Knight, 2007, 2011, 2013).

  12. Advanced Coaching Academy Coursework in ACA is grounded in the premise that all teachers can learn in an environment that is safe to take risks and make mistakes while learning. Coaches understand the importance of giving specific and timely feedback and support based on strategies used by the teacher.

Conversation role play • Identify who will be the Coach? • Who will be the teacher? • Who will be the observers? • And decide which data display will be used? • Engage in coaching conversation for 5 minutes • Observers make note of what you hear and see • Debrief the process and repeat with a different, coach, teacher and observers as time allows
