  1. AP Classes and High school classes in junior high By: Andrea Humphrey 7th hour

  2. Should high school classes be offered at the middle school level? • At our school, BJHS, five high school classes are taught. French 1, Spanish 1, French 2, Spanish 2, algebra 1, and honors geometry. • As a student who has taken French 1 and Algebra 1 and is currently taking French 2 and Honors Geometry I can honestly say the program is wonderful. • When interviewed a parent of a student in the “advanced” track said, “If you need a challenge this is the right way to go. While if you struggle with the basic classes do not try to take the higher level courses,”

  3. Honors and Advanced Placement (AP) classes AP classes are another way to challenge yourself in school. At BHS they offer a honors or advanced placement course for almost every class. As freshmen and sophomores you can take honors classes if your teachers recommend you and you have the necessary prerequisites. As you become a junior or senior you have opportunities to take college level classes known as AP or Advanced Placement classes. At the end of the year you take the AP test for that course and If you score a 5 (being the highest) and at some universities a 4 or 3 you will not have to take that course in college.

  4. Benefits of taking advanced courses. • Taking advanced classes in middle school and high school can make you more eligible when it comes time to apply for colleges and jobs in the future. • AP classes can cut your costs in college if you do well because you won’t have to pay for that course. • According to a study reported in the Washington post, “Researchers found that students who participated in AP classes and exams earned a higher GPA.” • Having a greater chance of being accepted to a better university.

  5. Why am I encouraging you to challenge yourself? I personally believe that everyone deserves a challenge. If the classes you are in are challenging enough, then you are perfect where you are. Challenging yourself is important because that means you are a hard worker which is a trait employers look for in their employees.

  6. THEEND!Thank you to my parents and teachers and school board to make it possible to have such a wonderful education program here at BJHS and BHS!
