  7. Ways to Involve Partners • Include on SPIL development team • Invite to required public meetings (during formulation of SPIL and during review of Draft SPIL) • Include in focus groups, forums, facilitated discussions, etc.

  8. Keys to Successful Partnerships • Include Partners in: • Formulation of vision for IL in your state • Gathering input for SPIL • Development of SPIL & decision-making • Gathering feedback on Draft SPIL • Responding to feedback received

  10. Keys to Successful Partnerships • All partners on the SPIL Development Team are equal: • In discussions • In formulation • In decisions

  11. Avoiding/Overcoming Conflict • Spend time on the Vision • Use a facilitator if needed • Respect each other • Make sure everyone has the opportunity to be heard • Negotiate • Be willing to compromise
