  3. History • Optometric Center of New York (OCNY) • Group of philanthropists and optometrists joined to form this non-profit health and education resource • First opened in 1971 • Took over OCNY’s research program • Contributes to SUNY CO’s impressive reputation for research in vision science

OD Program • Year 1: Introduced to scientific basis of optometry, optometric theory and the elements of clinical practice • Clinical Integration: Observe and Assist Interns; Community vision Screenings • Year 2: Basic knowledge in a variety of specialized areas is acquired, enhance primary clinical care skills • Clinical Integration: Perform comprehensive eye examinations • Year 3: Continue to take didactic courses in areas of ocular disease, contact lenses, binocular vision, public health and practice development • Clinical Integration: Provide patient care in the UEC; work in clinical teaching units with students and doctors • Year 4: Focus on specialty areas in the UEC, assigned to four clinical rotations at internal and external sites (>40 Sites)
