  4. The three types of Irony Verbal-words are used to suggest the opposite of what was meant. Dramatic –what appears to be true about a character is not what the reader or audience knows to be true. Situational- an event occurs that directly contradicts expectations.

  6. Example of verbal Irony A mother makes the least favorite dish for her kid and the kid tends to just sit at the dinner table playing with his food, much to the annoyance of both parents.   7. ExampleofsituationalIrony One of the best situational irony examples for kids would be from O Henry's 'The Gift of the Magi'. In this story, there is a Christian married couple who are very poor. So, to give each other Christmas gifts, the wife cuts off her beautiful long hair to a wig-maker for money and buys a chain for her husbands heirloom pocket watch.
