Design Engineer – Machinery Background Salary - £25,000 - £30,000 Potential Route GCSE Electronics and Control Systems A Level Product Design Resistant Materials Degree or HNC@ College / University Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Design Engineer is responsible for developing an outline product specification into fully detailed design information to enable manufacture.The Design Engineer has some project management responsibility and is expected to ensure customer satisfaction and design optimisation.The Design Engineer carries out design checks and calculations to ensure the safety and reliability of the product, and produces component and general arrangement drawings, bills of material, specifications for purchased items and installation, operation and maintenance instructions.The Design Engineer uses SolidWorks 3D CAD, MathCad and Alliance/MFG MRP software, plus standard office applications.The Person. HNC or Degree educated in mechanical engineering or capable of achieving this level, the successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate all of the following attributes: A good understanding of mechanical engineering principles, a structured approach to problem solving, commercially aware, the ability to communicate design information clearly on documents and in verbal discussions, the desire to innovate and self-motivation and good organisational skills. Prior knowledge or experience of stress analysis, pressure equipment and rotating machinery design, legislation applicable to the design and supply of equipment, materials, machining, welding, electric motors, gearboxes, mechanical sealing systems and pipework would be an advantage.
