  1. Don’t write a summary: When John asks for his cider, Elizabeth brings it to him. He tells her to cut flowers to make the house nice, which she says she’ll do. Then he invites her to take a walk with him all through the farm on Sunday. He talks of the smell of lilac, and Elizabeth agrees that that everything is so lovely in spring…. Where is the STORY-TELLING, the ARTISTRY of fiction in that? Blah! 
