Objectives • To review the STLM project-Uniterra II (2012-2013) • To have a better understanding of: • the current volunteer mobilization in different programs and local institution partners in Vietnam; • the project’s activities/initiatives and initial results achieved by Uniterra volunteers and local institution partners. • To share: • Some success stories of changes observed in local institutional partners; • Opportunities and challenges in Volunteer Planning, Mobilization and Management; • Best practices of effective volunteer mobilization to make a real change. • To discuss: • How to mobilize Uniterra volunteers more effectively; • Action plans each institution for (2013-2014). • TO GET TO KNOW EACH OTHER BETTER • TO HAVE FUN! 2

Key Activities & Initial Results (2012-2013) • Provide professional support, training and workshops focusing on capacity development to meet the needs of local Partner Institutions (PIs) esp. in the following areas: • Partnership Development (e.g. Proposal Writing, Needs Assessment, Social Enterprises; Alumni Engagement); • E-learning; • Communication and Soft Skills; • Marketing and Branding; • Gender Mainstreaming; • Teaching Methodology; • Skills for Employability/Career Development • Mobilize volunteers to meet the local PIs’ needs (i.e. the 70/30 ratio for LTs and ‘added – value’ workshops given by L4Cs);

  7. Key Activities & Initial Results (2012-2013) Improved capacities and knowledge (i.e. of professional areas and gender equality) of teachers and /or staff of local PIs

Key Activities& Initial Results (2012-2013) • Launched Call for Proposals and Concept Notes for Initiatives that help students gain better access to the labour market in June 2012. • 10 Concept Notes were collected and 7 of them were developed into full proposals; • 3 Partnership Development Volunteers were mobilized to support local IPs (upon request) in July 2012; • The best two were funded with the total amount of USD3,500; • An external consultant was invited to help 5 IPs improve their proposal writing skills in Oct 2012. Improved proposal writing and project development skills for local PIs’ teachers and staff.

Key Activities& Initial Results (2012-2013) • Developed a comprehensive understanding of 8 PIs’ strategies used (i) to provide a better curriculum that matches the needs of the local labour market and (ii) to improve the employability of students; • Helped create and organize regular forums/events/clubs (i.e. Skills for Employment Seminars, ESL, Job Fairs, Career Development Day) among local PIs and related Associations. • A baseline Survey Report on Needs Assessment completed in Nov 2012 by 3 Partnership Development Advisors (incl. both quantitative and qualitative data on strategies used and challenges faced by each institution); • English Clubs were established in almost all PIs with many training and/or seminars on Soft skills and Skills for Employability; • 2 Visits made by VLCC’s teachers and students to local enterprises in Dec 2012; • 2 Job Fairs organized with WUSC’s support at BTL in Feb and Mar 2013; • 2 Forums bet. BTL and their local partner enterprises organized to discuss how to improve the curriculum in Feb and Mar 2013; • 5 Career Development Workshops delivered at BTCC in Jan 2013.

Key Initiatives& Initial Results (2012-2013) • Helped local PIs improve their training curricula and job placements for students through: • Doing a Needs Assessment (NA) at 8 PIs with their local enterprise partners; • Two NA workshops delivered by Mekong Economics Ltd.; • A Baseline Survey was done with 83 local enterprises; • A Report with general findings and recommendations; • A General NA questionnaire developed. • Promoting Alumni Engagement; • Alumni Engagement Website at HTCC.

Key Initiatives& Initial Results (2012-2013) • Doing a Gender NA with a view to: • Having a comprehensive understanding of Gender and Gender Equality among teachers and staff of 8 PIs; • Helping develop gender-sensitive training programs and practices, focusing directly on employable skills and life skills; • Helping increase women’s access to employment in the job market. • Sexual Health and Gender Mainstreaming introduced. • 3 workshops in BTL and HPCC
