  1. Descriptive Essay About My Mother No matter how hard life gets for me and how chaotic things can become there has always been one person that I can turn to, my mom. She's been a wealth of advice to call on when I'm clueless and a shoulder to cry on when I'm down. Her compassion for others inspires me to be a better person as does the guidance she has given me over the years. She's not afraid to give me a reality check and to tell me the things I don't want to hear even though I need to. She keeps me grounded and teaches me to appreciate the smaller things in life. Even though my dad was still involved in my life after my parents split up it was my mother who I primarily lived with and it was her who had the greatest influence on my life growing up. Anyone who has known my...show more content... Heaven help you if you do anything to endanger her family. My mom also does not go soft on her kids; she can be a formidable disciplinarian when she wants to and will not hesitate to set us straight when we broke the rules. She won't let anybody walk over her and is really quick to anger if you try. My mother is strong–willed and stubborn; when she sets her mind to something almost nothing will stop her and what an impossible feat it is to change her mind on something. She is very impatient; when she wants something done she wants it done at this very moment, no later. She is idealistic and she enjoys the simpler things that life has to offer. She loves nature and would love nothing more than to be living in a cabin in the mountains while listening to country music. She does not pay much attention to news happening outside her local area and prefers to focus on what's happening in her immediate area. From my mother I have learned how to be the person that I am today. Through her I have learned the importance of family and that it is paramount to spend time with them while I still have it. Even now I try to spend time with my family when I have the opportunity to. Form her I have learned compassion for those around me and for animals. Even ...Get more content on HelpWriting.Net...

  2. Research Experience I have proactively engaged in research activity throughout my undergraduate program. I had my first research experience in Dr. B Anand's lab, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati, during my second year. The aim of the project was to study the non–fluorescent beta–barrel structured proteins and engineer its amino acid sequence to make them into fluorescent ones. Our approach was mainly based upon the studies of Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP) from a jellyfish Aequorea victoria. Tools like Python programming language, Gromacs, Ribosome, PROSS, and Pymol were used to study the structural components of non–fluorescent proteins. I gained invaluable...show more content... I was challenged with cloning ydeH gene into the pJT118 plasmids which are green light sensitive. The ydeH gene produces a protein named diguanylate cyclase, which induces the production of c– di–GMP in Rosetta strain. This project gave me an opportunity to participate and win silver at International Bio–molecular design competition (BIOMOD) 2012 held at Wyss Institute, Harvard University, USA. Most of the molecular genetic techniques were extensively used in my project. During this internship, apart from gaining deeper technical experience, I realized that I could work on a research problem with a certain degree of independence, figuring out right approaches and proposing useful experiments. I acquired more confidence in my aptitude for research and it has been boosted while working on my undergraduate projects. As a part of my undergraduate thesis, I worked on a project 'Extraction and analysis of beauvericin, a mycotoxin produced by Beauveria bassiana and its cytotoxic effects on the SF–21 (immortalized pupal ovarian cells isolated from Spodoptera frugiperda) cell line' under the guidance of Dr. Gurvinder Kaur Saini, IIT Guwahati. Beauvericin metabolite was extracted from the Beauveria bassiana isolates UB17 and UB21, by using n–hexane extraction method and the presence of beauvericin was analyzed and confirmed with High Pressure Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and Mass spectroscopy (MS). 3. stress and how it affects the body Essays Taylor Diehl Mr. David Schultz Speech 1010 16 September 2014 Stress and what causes it Stress is a very common everyday thing. People have stress so much that most of the time they don't even know how much it's affecting them. Stress can really affect your body, mind, and behavior. It is a normal response to situations that make you feel upset or threatened in a way. Stress is the body's way of change. The change can either be good or bad. Stress affects your health without you even realizing it. Constant headaches or trouble sleeping would be something stress causes often. This can get bad enough which leads to serious health problems such as obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. Stress effects your body with things like muscle...show more content... Stress can get bad enough to where it starts to affect your body system. Things like depression, heart attacks, diseases, rashes and a low immune system can all occur to people dealing with stress bad enough. The number of common signs and symptoms is outrageous and is depressing to see that there are so many people dealing with this and how it's such a common thing in this world. On stress.org, they talk about the different body systems and how they're affected. The nervous, musculoskeletal, respiratory, cardiovascular, endocrine, gastro and reproductive systems are all affected in some way and in many ways to say the least. If your stress ever gets so bad, I consider seeing a doctor or specialist seeing how dangerous this can get. There are four different kinds of stress warnings; Cognitive, Emotional, Physical, and Behavioral symptoms. These all range from moodiness, depression, worrying, aches/pains, and nervous habits. This can all be caused by other medical problems too so make sure you go get checked to find out what's causing it fully. People can deal with stress like its apart of their life and some can't deal at all. The way certain people handle stress can depend on your outlook on life or the decisions you make. Mostly if you have a lot to do or a lot of responsibly, your body has its emergency stress response on most of the time. Long term stress leads to depression over anything though. Overall, stress affects everyone in different ...Get more content on HelpWriting.Net...

  4. Thesis About Family Chapter I THE PROBLEM AND ITS STUDY 1. Introduction Family is very important part of our everyday life. It helps us in improving our personality. It also helps us in shaping our life. It teaches us the value of love, affection, care, truthfulness and self– confidence and provides us tools and suggestions which are necessary to get success in life. Family is a place where you can be yourself. It is a place where you are accepted for what you are. This is where you are completely tension free and everyone is there to help you. Family encourages you when you are surrounded by problems. It helps you survive through tough times and bring joy and happiness into life. The way your family members deal with you has a life long effect on your personality. Keeping in view all these facts the importance of your family life cannot be denied. Family unit happens to be the most important part of your life till you grow up. The children are usually closer to their parents and their siblings as compared to any other person in the world. As the children grow up they find good friends, spouses, their own kids and colleagues to share their lives with. Although time brings this change but the importance of family remains there. The children who have a sound family background and who belong to a family with strong family ties are almost always happier. Thus one cannot deny the importance of family life. The life with your family is very important it plays a major role in your development into the person you become. The goals you set for yourself in your life are very much dependent on the life you have with your family. Those children who belong to the families which have a rich education background tend to learn more. They are interested in learning more and thus it is easy for their parents to get them educated. Similarly, for example, children who belong to a family from which a few of the people are in the field of professional sports, the kids tend to have an interest in sports and they also ...Get more content on HelpWriting.Net...

  5. Examples Of Factual Claim An example of a factual claim found in the film, was on the crime scene in which the detective shot a guy in the blue Mercedes. The detective claim that he was driving and cut the blue Mercedes off and the driver got mad and started to pulled up beside him waving a gun. However, he said he tried to leave but the guy fired a shot and he shot back in self–defense. Then when he opened the door the driver fell out dead. The interpretive claim to go along with it is, when detective Graham (Don Cheadle) asked the officer at the scene were there any witness that could prove the story of the detective. She said no, so he asked her to see can she can find witnesses as the course of action to described the event in the factual claim. ...Get more content on HelpWriting.Net...

  6. Essay on Critical Thinking The concepts of critical thinking and creative thinking are both gaining increasing importance in the world today. Critical thinking allows people to understand difficult concepts in a manner that is clearer and more defined. They can more readily understand those concepts if they employ critical thinking. In all portions of everyday life, a person is expected to make independent judgments. Those judgments are based on experience and knowledge. Without the ability to think critically, every situation that a person comes across would have to be considered in isolation from all other situations. When a person encounters a problem that is a new one, he or she may be able to use critical thinking to solve those problems. One...show more content... Critical thinking also helps in decision–making. Both problem solving and decision–making abilities are vital to a prosperous business. Persons who are critical thinkers can make a difference in the companies in which they are employed. Today?s corporations must first recognize that there is a real need for critical thinkers. It is important for both the top management down the line. Critical thinking must be taught and built in to the way the company or organization performs its business. In fact, companies and organizations must embrace the concept of critical thinking. Critical thinking can lead to success story after success story. This type of impact gives any company or organization credibility. According to Supon, one of the fundamental purposes of teaching critical thinking is to enhance the abilities of students to become critical thinkers. Corporate leaders, educational researchers, employers, and parents have continually pushed teachers to assist their students in the development of critical thinking ability. Critical thinking is a skill that ?involved not only knowledge of content by also concept formation and analysis, reasoning and drawing conclusions, recognizing and avoiding contradiction, and other essential cognitive activities? (Supon, 1998). There are proposed reasons for the emphasis that is currently on critical thinking. Many factors can be related to this emphasis. They include the societal factors of economic shifts ...Get more content on HelpWriting.Net...

  7. Remoteness refers to the legal test of causation which is used when determining types of loss caused by a breach of contract or duty which can be compensated by the award of damages. There is a difference between legal causation and factual causation because of that question arises whether damages resulted from breach of contract or duty. In contract law Hadley v Baxendale is the traditional test for remoteness.Test is in essence a test of forseeabilty. The loss is only recoverable if it was in contemplation of parties.English Law relating to remoteness of damages in contracts is no more vague as it was a century back when the Hadley test was nothing but words twisted around. Hol has changed its shift in approach which is more subjective now in terms of intention of parties..It can be suggested that agreement based approach to remoteness could be possibly be extended to non pecuniary losses and certain areas of law of torts.. Purpose of contractual damages under english law is to protect the innocent party and put it in a position where it would have been if the contract had not been breached. In order to prove its damages a party must show that the law was reasonably foreseeable at time of completion of contract. Parties are supposed to have certain knowledge when they enter contract and such knowledge which reasonable person is assumed to know in the ordinary course of thing. Parties are taken to foresee loss which is not likely to happen because of breach of contract ...Get more content on HelpWriting.Net...

  8. Narrative Essay On A Boy Scout Camp I was driving in a car with my friend, Trevor. We were heading to a boy scout camp for a camping trip with an unknown agenda to us. We both had packed what we usually need for a camping trip which was a daypack, a tent and tarp, a couple pairs of clothes, and our uniform. Neither of us were as certain to why we were heading up to this camp and what we would get out of this weekend. About two months earlier, our boy scout troop had an election for the Order of the Arrow, also known as the Boy Scout National Honor Society. Our peers in the troop were told to pick a few scouts that exemplified the Scout Oath and Law in their everyday life. At the end of the night, five scouts were chosen. Trevor and I, being two of them. Both of us knew that we were going to attend this trip on the same date because we both usually do everything together. When arriving at the campsite, we were told to bring all of our equipment and head up to the dining hall for check–in. We waited in lines for several minutes before being given the "okay" for attending their weekend event. Afterwards, we were told to go up to field to set up our tents, but before we left to do that we said goodbye to Trevor's dad. When we were setting up our tents, we felt scared and lonely because the only people we knew were each other. But, we knew that would last that long. We headed back down to the dining hall, where we were each given a letter. These letters told us which table to sit at which we eventually learned ...Get more content on HelpWriting.Net...

  9. Reflection Paper On Ted Talk For this assignment, I chose to watch a Ted Talk that focused on the importance of understanding differences. It is entitled Love No Matter What and is the culmination of years of research done by Andrew Solomon. I chose this Ted Talk because I thought it would be interesting to hear about different lived experiences that people have endured. One of the huge ideas I have learned throughout this leadership course and all our topics and conversation is that we all have different lived experiences. It is our lived experiences that make us special and individual. Love No Matter What focused on this essential idea and how important differences are. The topic of this Ted Talk completely reflects what has been said in our leadership class as well as what I think a student leader at Western Oregon University should be. Solomon's talk is centered around the relationship of parents and children and accepting and loving children, but the ideas expressed in his talk can be applied to any human relationship. I believe Western is a university that deeply prides itself in its student diversity and acceptedness of said diversity. The Western that I know, and love, understands the true necessity of diversity and wishes to be accepting of diversity in all of its forms. To me, listening to this Ted Talk was very emotional and personal. I have been incredible blessed with parents in my life that love and accept me the way I am. However, I have not, or at least not much, challenged them in ...Get more content on HelpWriting.Net...

This is a brand new experience of my life having to leave my friends and teachers in middle school behind. New school, new friends and new teachers are all part of this new school year. This one is different though, it's the first week of high school. Most freshmen like me that enter the school are scared. I think the first week of the school is the easiest since there would not be a lot of homework and what you need to do is to listen to what you need for the class and know other people well in the class. 12. The Report Of A Burglary On 02/05/2017 I was dispatched to 524 E. 30th Ave. North for the report of a burglary. When I arrived, I noted the front of the house was facing south. The house was a single level, white in color with a tin roof. The front of the house had a porch that also faced the south. When I pulled into the driveway, two people were standing on the front porch. I walked up to the porch and the two individuals identified themselves as the home owners. The male identified himself as Augustus Arterburn 05/07/1993, and the female identified herself as Isabella Cook 03/20/1993. He also said a stack of 20 miscellaneous DVD 's were taken on the TV stand. We then walked into the kitchen that was located to the south of the living room. Augustus said when they left the house the pile of clothes that were on the ground were directly in front of the back door. When they returned home the clothes were all pushed up against the wall because the back door had been opened. The rear door to the house faced the north and no lights were on. The rear door only locks with the door handle lock and was undamaged. Augustus and Isabella said they had looked over the entire house and only the items listed above were taken. Augustus said two other flat screen TV 's were not taken and he had firearms in the bedroom that were not tampered with. I asked Augustus if he owned the home or if he was renting, he said they were renting and had just moved in. I asked him if he had the locks changed since they had moved in, he said no. 13. Child Development Case Study Essay One precious little girl, charming responses, and thirty well spent minutes adds up to a successful Piaget project. The time spent on interviewing a child for cognitive development was insightful, and gave me a first hand look at how a child's mind matures with age. N.G., 4 years, 11 months, embodied all I could ask for in a child to conduct such an interview on. Nearing her fifth birthday in the upcoming week, her age is central between ages three and seven, providing me with information that is certainly conducive to our study. Within moments upon entry into our interview it was apparent that my child fell into the preoperational stage of Piaget's cognitive development. More specifically, N.G. fell into the second half of the...show more content... stated that the tall glass held more water because, "it's bigger!" This is a classic example validating no conservation; the ability to recognize the important properties of a substance or object that remain constant despite changes in its shape. A branch of conservation is the logical concept of complementarily, which better argues N.G.'s lack of conservation. Complementarily deals with one tall, narrow glass, and another short, wide glass which is a spitting image of our demonstration. Entering part two of my interview I was observing for egocentric tendencies which were surprisingly nowhere to be found. I led into this section by telling N.G., "My birthday was yesterday!" Hoping to have a response of, "My birthday's in six days!" was nonexistent, instead N.G.'s response was, "that's cool". Short and simple, N.G. neither showed signs of egocentrism or an understanding of how I should feel by responding with a neutral response. Part three, the questioning section of my interview, solidified my analysis of N.G.'s cognitive functioning. N.G. was asked numerous questions, six specifically, that were to differentiate her recognition of factual and imaginary information. Over the course of the questioning I received a variety of answers that showed no correlation between one another. N.G. was able to logically respond to the following questions: ? 14. Reflection Essay : What I Have Learned In Physics What did I learn in physics this year? Physics reveals how our surroundings operate or don't operate. I learned how a microwave oven uses rays with a smaller wavelength than a lightbulb. One thing I learned about physics is that it's all based on math. Having a math disability puts me at a disadvantage against all other students. I understand material better especially if the lesson is taught to me one–on–one and I also don't have a very good memory which doesn't allow me to remember material as fast and easier as others. Let me start off with I know about physics. What I have learned about physics is that this subject is the study of the physical properties that surround us. Physics is how things move and what makes them move. For example, measurements such as velocity and acceleration and how they are used in physics is a major piece of the class. Also, physicists study the forces of gravity, electrical currents, and other numerous forces that hold everything together. Physics is also the study of very large things and very small things. Scientists study the stars, planets, and all other galaxies made up of matter. They also study the smaller pieces of matter such as atoms and electrons. During this year, I have learned the study of sound, light, and waves. We also studied the energy, heat, and radioactivity amongst objects. Physics not only helps us understand how objects move, but also how they change form, go from hot to cold, and what they are made of. One example of what we learned this year is the motion of an object. Motion can be portrayed as using displacement, distance, velocity, acceleration, time, and speed. We had focused on the lesson of Newton's first law: an object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an outside force. Physics is all about ideas, all about how the universe works and its hidden properties. These ideas help you predict what will happen with matter and its energy to move and change. You do have to make measurements and you do have to use mathematical equations to find your final answer and what will happen. Somebody with a good understanding of physics has an idea of how a car will ...Get more content on HelpWriting.Net...

  15. Reflection On My English 101 Experience Reflecting on My English 101 Experience I used to consider writing as tumble words from your mind, write, read it through, fix minor mistakes, and done. However, you rarely get successful. The truth is many students, including myself, struggle with starting to write a word, or getting stuck in the middle without knowing the main point of the writing. After completing English 101, I can explain the writing process, evaluate the strengths of my essay, and identify my weaknesses. Throughout English 101, I learned that the following the writing process was imperative. Before taking this class, I use to always skip the pre–writing step considering that it is just an easy and unnecessary step. Consequently, I struggled to figure how to start writing, and most importantly I struggled to figure out the main point while writing the draft. And then I finish the first draft close to the deadline that I do not have time to read it not to mention revising. It was after I started this class that learned that pre–writing is vital, and requires time and attention as it holds the base of the whole writing. My professor used different analogies such as blueprint for building and map for navigation to explain the importance. It really speeded up my writing after I started to utilize it. I have learned outlining before, but part of the pre–writing that I was fortunate enough to learning in English 101 is the writing triangle. Even before outlining, the topic, purpose, and audience of the ...Get more content on HelpWriting.Net...

  16. Personal Narrative Personal Narrative– Bicycle Crash I used to bike often with my friend Juan in my hometown of Aguascalientes, Mexico. In the narrow streets, a heavy flow of traffic make biking treacherous. Certain streets have traffic signs saying, "CEDA EL PASO A UN VEHICULO" which means "Let one vehicle go through at a time." I biked on the right side of the street and my friend Juan biked on the left side. On our trip to buy tamales Juan and I were supposed to cross an intersection with a "CEDA EL PASO A UN VEHICULO" sign. As we approached the intersection, I gleamed my chance to cross at the same time as the car in front of me. Since Juan and I were racing to cross the intersection, I sped up to reach the red vehicle. First, I lifted up my right leg that was about to smash with the left fender of the car. Thus I saved my right leg from being broken and causing major injuries to my fine, young body. Second, I remembered the advice of my friend Juan, who told me, " Always when you fall try to roll over the floor or wherever you are at while at the same time covering your head so you will not get hurt so much." I followed his advice. The impact of my bicycle hitting the car caused my body to fly over the hood and land on it. While rolling over the hood I kept repeating to myself over and over my friend's advice, "Cover your head and keep rolling." I kept rolling until my body did not have any more hood to roll on, so I plopped to the ground like a sack of potatoes until I finally stopped rolling. After a few moments of initial shock, I slowly opened my eyes and looked all around me. Then I closed my eyes again and concentrated all my mental energy to check my body for injuries without moving for fear of aggravating any injuries I might have incurred. When I opened my eyes again I saw my friend Juan running to get my broken bicycle. To me this meant that the accident had not been tragic or even critical. 17. "A factor, by itself, may not be sufficient to cause injury but if, with other factors, it materially contributes to causing injury, it is clearly a cause of injury.". This quote, stated by Lord Salmon in McGhee v National Coal Board is an example of the difficulty that can arise when determining if a defendant had materially contributed to the plaintiff 's injury when the medical evidence is inconclusive. It is argued that the material contribution test has changed the path of the law and as we will see when analysing both McGhee and Fairchild, it has blurred the distinction between legal and factual causation. In part 1 of this essay, we will examine the difference between factual causation and legal causation. In part 2, we will examine the judgements in both cases and how the courts applied the material contribution test to both. In part 3, our analytical section, we will examine how both of these cases have blurred the distinction between legal and factual causation and argue that the material contribution test has changed the path of the law for future cases. Legal Causation In this section, we will look at cause–in–fact and legal causation and how they are both traditionally understood.Legal causation involves the use of legal principles to attribute responsibility to the factual causes of an injury and it is particularly helpful in resolving more complex types of cases. The legal decision as to what is the cause involves a judgement as to where responsibility ...Get more content on HelpWriting.Net...

  18. Reflection About History Knowing and understanding the past helps open doors to the future. As the old saying goes "history repeats itself". And if we didn't study American History, there would be no hope for the future. Without the knowledge of the past, Americans couldn't prevent the negative things from reoccuring. Our nation is stronger because superiors recognized the failures in the past and prevented them from occurring in the future. History doesn't just come from a textbook in school, it is all around us. History is found in museums, books, on the internet, where statues and memorials lie, and just from stories passed down from one generation to the next. History not only explains who people were, but what they did and why. History represents America's failures, progression, and success. Through history, we learn how people fixed problems, whether it worked or not, and we can build off of those solutions to better our future as Americans. Decision makers must use history to make factual judgements in order to succeed. Take the Vietnam War for example, a war that America didn't win. Although it may be considered a loss, it was a lesson learned. America learned that war doesn't solve everything, but we do know how to pick and choose our battles now. My grandpa is a Vietnam veteran, he was in the 101st airborne for the Army. He came home from the war shamed, just as all the other veterans were. At that time people weren't accepting the failure and learning from it, but the people of ...Get more content on HelpWriting.Net...
