  3. Even more necessary ? • Greek demonstrations, Spanish youngsters walking to Brussels, umemployment, bankruns etc. • Main Question: More Europe, a different Europe or no Europe? • Underlying Question: What kind of Europe do we want\need?

Our main goals • Awareness of a larger world • Knowledge about the history and organisation of European Cooperation • A personal view on recent developments in Europe • Meeting, working and living with other Europeans • Developing skills: English, presentations etc. • Motto: ‘Be open, be flexible

  5. How do we work? Learning on Europe with fellow Europeans: *Same program (Identity and Democracy) *E-mail exchange and comparison of products *Exchange (under construction) *Collective tests on knowledge and reflection *Selfassessment of learning proces

  6. IDENTITY ‘What is Europe?’ -Class page-> e-mail (idem) -Presentations DEMOCRACY ‘How democratic is Europe?’ II. National democracy(constitution, political arties, extra parliamentary pressure groups etc.) European Democracy The 4th year course: Classwork

EXCHANGE I Presentation group c.q. classpages and pages on national ‘identity’ and ‘image’ Visits to Barcelona Working on Identity (Learning to know European Values, yourself and the others) (Contents: Historical and geograhical analysis of European Values) EXCHANGE 2 Presentations of national research on democracy Visits to Amsterdam and Den Bosch ‘Europe and democracy’ ->What kind of europe do we want in 2027 (Contents: Politics, migration, work, (family)relations, sexual permissiveness) EXCHANGES

STUDENT EVALUATIONS SO FAR -’I liked that we had to work with foreign people, this way you can learn from each other.’ -’It is very important, to know about facts and figures on the European Identity. The Atlas of European values gives relevant background information.’ -’It was great to see your country through the eyes of foreigners.’ -’In the end there were no foreigners anymore, we were all Europeans.’

SOME CONCLUSIONS • ‘Face to face work’ is very motivating for students and teachers. • Common background of the 4th years course gives the exchanges more focus. • Excursions are integrated in the educational project • Growing knowledge and attitude are tested during exchange resulting in a certificate of European Citizenship. • Digital portfolio should lead to a personal archive of European Citizenship • European Citizenship provides a fruitful framework to combine education in class and education during exchanges, of learning and leisure.
