  1. SmartCheck – The Body Scanning Machine BY Rezwana Islam

What is SmartCheck? • It peeks underneath passenger’s clothing to search for guns, bombs or liquid explosives. • In this device special privacy software intentionally blurs the image. • It creates an outline of a body that is clear enough to see a collarbone, bellybutton, or weapon. • SmartCheck flattens details of revealing contours.

  3. How does SmartCheck works? • Security officials are examining the head to toe images with a screener in a closed booth. • This machine generates about as much radiation as a passenger would get flying for about two minutes at about 30,000 feet.

  4. Advantages • SmartCheck poses no health hazard. • It can detect liquid or plastic explosives. • The X-ray image would be destroyed immediately.

  5. Disadvantages It is not strong enough to penetrate much beyond the skin, so it can’t find weapons that may be hidden in body cavities. Extra radiation is not good for our selves.

  6. Disadvantages…cont’d SmartCheck poses some ethical and legal challenges. • SmartCheck is a violation of peoples’ personal rights. • This X-ray scan is a “virtual strip- search”.

  8. Conclusion • For enhancing the security of the airport SmartCheck is beyond expectation. • People who aren’t comfortable with a Pat-down, they may appreciate SmartCheck.
