Assessment Testing • To be admitted to Midlands Technical College you took either the ASSET or COMPASS placement test and MTC Writing Sample • The ASSET is the pen and paper test (at high schools and on campus) • The COMPASS is the computerized test (on campus) • The Writing Sample is the written essay used for English placement Your beginning courses are determined by your placement test scores

  8. Academic Advanced Placement AP Credit(Advanced Placement Program Courses) If you took AP Courses in High School you may be able to get credit for college courses. Send exam scores directly to MTC

  9. Your Responsibilities as a College Student Know your program requirements. Accept responsibility for your choices. Be on time! Discuss any problems with school work, study habits, and academic progress. Ask questions. Provide the college with official transcripts. If you plan to transfer, contact that College.

  10. Program Requirements Overview Program requirements for each major are in the MTC Catalog. They can also be found by doing an MTCOnlineProgram Evaluation.

  12. Advisement Purpose To ensure new students are placed in appropriate courses based on placement testing Discuss academic goals Review program requirements Assist you in making academic choices

  13. Preparing for your appointment Become familiar with your program requirements so you will be prepared to ask relevant questions What are your long-range plans? Do you plan to get a certificate, diploma or degree? Do you plan to take a few courses, then transfer?

  14. What is a pre-requisite? Examples: Course Prerequisite ENG 101 RDG 100 & ENG 100 MAT 110 MAT 102 & RDG 100 A pre-requisite is a course that must be completed before you can take another course

Fall Registration begins July 1, 2009 Creating Your Schedule: Online Services Center staff can assist you with creating a schedule, setting up your MTC Online account and your Campus Cruiser E-mail account. Course Formats: Traditional Classroom; Day & Evening; Distance Learning; Computer Based Courses (DVD); Internet; Hybrid Courses; Broadcast Classroom locations: Airport; Beltline; Batesburg-Leesville; Fort Jackson; Harbison Creating your schedule

  17. Full-Time v. Part-Time • Full-time means you are enrolled in at least 12 credit hours and are in class 12 hours or more each week. • Part-time means you are enrolled in less than 12 credit hours and are in class less than 12 hours each week.

  20. Extended Registration Wednesday, August 19 • EXTENDED REGISTRATION • If you have not registered or have not paid your fees by the payment deadline, you can still register on this date • $75.00 late fee is charged

  21. Schedule Change • Students may change their classes during scheduled registration dates and during the first 2 1/2 days of the term • Check the MTC web site or the Registration Guide for location and times
