  6. I want them to see themselves as a daughter just like every other daughter. -Long term caregiver

  7. Well I think the parent is there for the long term you don’t get any choice well some people do make a choice about that but you know to me to be a parent there is no choice. I’m primarily a parent and it’s an ongoing thing it doesn’t stop. - Long term caregiver

  9. …that it’s like being an aunty to those children not so much the mother because it’s not the mother love generally but it’s more like being an aunty. - Short term caregiver

  10. You know they still have those strong ties there with their birth family but they need to belong and the fostering system prevents that, very, very clearly. They’re not allowed to belong. - Long term caregiver

  11. Take home messages • Voices of caregivers is largely missing • Professionalisation of care has changed how caregivers view themselves • Shift from parental role to carer role has been noticed by caregivers • Caregivers are not a homogeneous group in how they perceive themselves
