  1. Role of PEB System in India Pre-engineered building systems in India will witness stunning growth and will post an impressive CAGR of more than 17% in the coming years. PEB systems are quite eco-friendly as most of its components are manufactured from cold formed steel sheet.PEB systems will drive India’s economic growth in the coming years. Pre-engineered building systems have been a major success in the construction market owing to several benefits they bring in. Today, the Indian economy is considered to be the second fastest growing economy in the world and a lot of it, is attributed to its construction industry which comes just next to agriculture as far its economic contribution to the nation is concerned. In its unwavering development, the construction industry has discovered, invented and developed several technologies, systems and products, one of them being the concept of Pre-engineered Buildings (PEBs). The Indian government has declared around 98 cities as smart cities, which include 24 capital cities, 18 cities of cultural and touristic significance, 3 educational and healthcare hubs, 24 business and industrial centres and 5 port cities. These smart cities are being developed in association with foreign governments that have put forth their interest in developing new private enterprises in India. The development of smart cities in India will lead to an increased demand for construction across residential and commercial sectors, which in turn will drive the PEB systems market over the next few years. As far as India is concerned, the idea has been gaining momentum and the scope of growth is certain looking at India’s huge infrastructural requirements. Studies and research already confirm that India has the quickest growing market in the PEB construction segment.

  2. By 2030, the commercial building sector in India is estimated to reach a target of 20.44 billion square feet from the current 10 billion square feet. It’s expected that nearly 36% of the 2030 target had already been constructed and about 66% of the building stock is yet to be constructed. In the last few years, with manufacturing activity increasing, logistics has gained equal prominence in order to offer better goods at lesser cost. One can also observe that India has around 8000 cold storage facilities with a capacity of 40MT. The addition in capacity to the cold store and warehousing would also trigger the PEB market in India. Another important aspect which works in PEB’s favour is the growing and much required push towards eco-friendly construction. Metal buildings are characteristically green products and have a far smaller impact on the environment as compared to conventional brick and mortar construction. The energy effective ways in producing steel used for these structures along with the high recycled content, help in considerably lessening greenhouse gas emissions. Also, even after demolition, these buildings don’t accumulate wastage such as asphalt shingles, concrete, brick and dust, and metal is the only by-product which is 100% recyclable. Over the time, scalability and turnaround time have become vital for construction across macro and micro projects for corporate, private and institutional use. Today, their popularity is increasing due to the ease of construction and their use, portable cabins prove to be a blessing for many companies, especially those in pre-engineered steel buildings manufacturing due to their flexibility and ease of use. They serve as the best answer to urgent accommodation requirements almost anywhere. These cabins are made with an aim to be useful to those related with quick development and can withstand any adverse climatic conditions. Presently, the method for construction of buildings demands for the best aesthetic look, high quality and fast construction, cost effective and innovative touch. One needs to think for alternative construction system such as pre-engineered steel buildings. India possesses an installed steel capacity of 35 to 40 million ton and apparent steel consumption is around 27 to 30 million ton. In pre-engineered building concept, the complete designing is done at the factory and the building components are brought to the site in knock down condition. These components are then fixed/jointed at the site and raised with the help of cranes. Use of pre-engineered metal/steel buildings leads to absolutely no mess of sand and cement, walkable ceilings, power savings, progressive and non-progressive panel systems for walls. With the help of such structures, one can provide a common man with a house created under strict quality control with a longer life span and with highest level of safety against natural disasters such as cyclones and earthquakes. Additionally, one can also create the building in the desired shape and form and the system approach renders a holistic way of thinking at a single platform for designers, consultants, builders and architects.
