  1. Dolphin song Presentation by: Annaleise Lukens Author: Lauren St. John

  2. The Storm The fierce storm that Martine and her class mates had to endure, is called a typhoon. Typhoons are storms that occur over the ocean, and are very much like hurricanes. The only difference between them, is typhoons form in the Pacific and Indian Oceans instead of the Atlantic Ocean.

  3. The Island A group of dolphins saved the kids from drowning, after the typhoon. They then took them to a deserted island in the middle of the ocean. On the island, the only sign of civilization was an abandoned lighthouse with an oldBazaruto sign. That meant that they were on a Bazaruto island! Bazaruto is the name of an ocean tribe. The name sounds different because it is from their language.

  4. Dolphins Dolphins are very smart and playful animals. Just like us they are mammals. Dolphins have been known to save shipwrecked sailors, and are well known because of their friendly nature! Dolphins are so intelligent that scientists think that they have their own language! Rainqueen Steel Thunder Sundancer Cookie Honey Patch Minnie Little Storm Ash

  5. Sonar A sonar is a sound emitted by ships and submarines, that is used to communicate with or detect objects around them. The only problem with a sonar is that it messes up dolphins’ echolocation. Sometimes it even causes them to beach themselves! A sonar is that sound that you just heard!

  6. The Other Island In the story, Martine and Ben discover a shipwreck that led them to a group of men from another island . They sneak onto the ship but are caught! They got locked in a room with nothing to help them, except an old radio that Ben used to contact his dad (an old fisherman). He thought the message about the sonar didn’t go through, but actually he just had the volume turned down!

  7. Death Island Death island isn’t really an island, but a very small shell bar! It was used as punishment for crime a long time ago. The tide came in fast, so either you swam eight miles of swift current and shark infested water or you drowned! In the story Martine and Ben get dropped off on Death island. Both of them passed out right when there was only about two feet of land left. They were going to die!

  8. Saved Just as the water was about to swallow them up, a helicopter found them because a huge ring of dolphins and whales circled them until they were found . They were then taken to a hospital where several people visited them (including Martine’s grandmother who then made up for the quarrel they had before Martine left for the trip). The story was very life threatening, and it made you want to keep reading! I highly suggest this book.
