  20. Lessons for Genesis Ch 1 Vs 1- 5 In the beginning God …. (He existed before all things …. He is the creator of all things. Note Plural “heavens” although some translations have it as singular. He spoke The Light into existence. “BIG Bang Theory” the one event that started it all. Cf. Vs 14. (Other lights to rule day and night) (DAY 1) Vs 6-10 Water-Sky-Water separation. (cf Gen 7:6 Noah). Land and Sea (Day 2) Vs 11-13 Plants and Trees (Day 3) Vs 14-19 Sun, Moon and Stars other lights to separate day & night. (Day 4) Vs 20–23 Fish, sea creatures, Birds. Vs 24-30 Animals, Man (note he mentioned female in vs 27). Our food were fruits. Vs 31 My favorite verse in Genesis. God evaluated is own work and it was VERYGOOD Question and answer period. 21. Welcome to a study ofThe Book of GenesisClass #2, -Adam to NoahWed Jan 21st 20097:00 – 8:00 pm

  22. Bible Study – Genesis Ch 2-5 • The Sabbath day Gen 2:1-3 • God “rested’ on the seventh day • The word Sabbath comes from the Hebrew word “shabbat” which means “to cease” • The 10 Commandments includes the observance of this day. • The number 7 is an important number in the Bible and signifies “Completion” • 7 days of creation • For example 7- year Sabbath of the land, • 7 x 7 years of Jubilee • Wash 7 times in the Jordan (Naaman) • Churches of Asia represent the Churches of the World

  23. Bible Study – Genesis Ch 2-5 2. Additional details of Creation Gen 2: 4-20 • Vs 5 God did not need rain to water the plants as the streams did that. • Adam and Eve and many of their children and grand children never knew rain. • The next mention of rain in the Bible is Gen 7:4 “I will cause it to rain upon the earth forty days” • Adam was the only living creation that God breathed into him the breath of life ( Gen 2:6) • Two tree were in the middle of the Garden. One was not for the eating. ( Life & Knowledge) (Gen 2:9, Rev 2:7) • Adam’s job was farmer, caretaker, & zoologist for the garden and to name everything ( Gen 2:19)

  24. Bible Study – Genesis Ch 2-5 • Creation of EVE • Gen 2:18. It is not good to be alone. • Everything that God had made was very good. • The greatest desire of LOVE is relationship. • Relationship requires more than one person. • Love is always outward looking. (Patient, kind, etc) • Why did God create man ??? • To have a loving relationship with man which is of man’s own free will. • God knew that Man needs woman; and woman needs man. Partners in reproduction. • God established the Family unit which is to be separate from the Father / Mother relationship.

  25. Bible Study – Genesis Ch 2-5 • The fall of Man • Knowledge of God’s commands need to be backed up by moral strength. • The knowledge must be firmly rooted to withstand 1/2 truths, innuendos and insinuations by the enemy. • The fall was actually due to Pride, Rebellion, and Disobedience, which led to sin. • Two types of Sin • Commission ( doing the act) Eve, and • Omission ( not taking action when you ought to) Adam

  26. Bible Study – Genesis Ch 2-5

  27. Bible Study – Genesis Ch 2-5

  28. Bible Study – Genesis Ch 2-5 • Cain & Abel • What was different about the two offerings. ? • Abel did “what was right”; but Cain did not (Gen 4:6) • Was Cain repentant ? • No, Cain allowed the emotion of jealously to develop into murder. • How must we handle bad emotions ? • 1st …confess them to the Lord. • Get advise from a godly person ( Spouse, Pastor, etc) • Love (agape), forgiveness (trespasses), self-control • Often asked question :- Who was Cain’s wife. ?? • Yes, He did marry his sister. Genetic aberration had not yet afflicted man’s DNA. • The birth of Seth was the start of a new era; “men began to call upon the name of the Lord”

  29. Bible Study – Genesis Ch 2-5 • From Adam to Noah – Geneology Life Spans of Biblical Patriarchs before the Flood Biblical Patriarch Life Span Age at Birth of First Son Adam 930 130 Seth 912 105 Enosh 905 90 Cainan 910 70 Mahalealel 895 65 Jared 962 162 Enoch 365 65 Methuselah 969 187 Lamech 777 182 Noah 950 500 The average life span before the flood was 912 years.

  31. Recap Lessons from Genesis Ch 2 - 5 • Question and answer period. • Close in prayer.

  32. Welcome to a study ofThe Book of GenesisClass #3, Gen 6 -10 Great Flood -The NationsWed Jan 28th 20097:00 – 8:00 pm

  33. PAY SPECIAL ATTENTION TO THE WORDING AND SPELLING.  YOU'LL FIND THIS HILARIOUS !   IT COMES FROM A CATHOLIC ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEST. KIDS WERE ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT THE OLD TESTAMENTS.   THE FOLLOWING STATEMENTS ABOUT THE BIBLE WERE WRITTEN BY CHILDREN.   THEY HAVE NOT BEEN RETOUCHED OR CORRECTED. INCORRECT SPELLING HAS BEEN LEFT IN. 1. IN THE FIRST BOOK OF THE BIBLE, GUINESSIS. GOD GOT TIRED OF CREATING THE WORLD SO HE TOOK THE SABBATH OFF.  2. ADAM AND EVE WERE CREATED FROM AN APPLE TREE. NOAH'S WIFE WAS JOAN OF ARK. NOAH BUILT AND ARK AND THE ANIMALS CAME ON IN PEARS.

  34. Bible Study – Genesis Ch 6-10 • God grieved at the sin on the Earth Ch 6:1:2 The population began to increase in number and the sons of God started to marry the daughters of men. • Who were the “sons of God” ? (Gen 6:2) • Fallen angels • Righteous men from the lineage of Seth • Who were the “daughters of men”? (Gen 6:2) • Sinful women form the lineage of Cain

  35. Bible Study – Genesis Ch 6-10 2. God grieved at the sin on the Earth • How were the Nephilim (Gen 6:4) • A descriptive word for people of great strength & size. • Heroes of old and men of renown • The Hebrew word means “fallen one”. • Why was God grieved that He had made man. • Every thought of men was inclined to evil all the time !! • God found one righteous man. • Noah ( Gen 6:8) ( God’s Spirit dwells among man from the creation of the world until the end of the age. He is never without a presence here on Earth. ) Eg. Noah, Elijah

  36. Bible Study – Genesis Ch 6-10 • Noah builds the Ark • Every miracle requires two components • Faith AND action by man • Supernatural participation of God. • What demonstrated Noah’s faith • He believed and walked with God. • What was Noah’s action. • For a 120 years Noah built the ark even though on one had ever seen rain. ( 120 yrs implied in Gen 6:3) • What was God’s supernatural participation • God flooded the earth but spared noad, He steered and directed the Ark, kept all aboard well fed and cared for over the 1 year + period afloat.

  37. Bible Study – Genesis Ch 6-10 About 120 years bet. death of Adam – Birth of Noah

  38. Bible Study – Genesis Ch 6-10 • Noah’s Birds (Gen 8:6-12) • The Raven often considered to be a dual natured bird. Detestable in Lev 11:15 yet a life giver to Elijah in 1 Kings 17:1 For Noah it just kept flying and proved useless to him in determining the state of the world. • The Dove is not a flesh eater and cannot fly for long periods. It was more valuable to Noah. The 2nd flight indicated that the water had receded and after the 3rd flight 7 days later, it did not return to the Ark. Very interesting web site http://www.worldwideflood.com/default.htm

  39. Bible Study – Genesis Ch 6-10

  40. Bible Study – Genesis Ch 6-10

  41. Bible Study – Genesis Ch 10 • Noah’s descendants • Sons of Japheth (7) – Intellectual Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras • From Gomer came the Cimmerians, who resided in Russia, until the, who were the descendents of Magog, forced them out • From Magog came the Scythians, Slavs, Russians, Bulgarians, Bohemians, Poles, Slovaks, and Croatians • Madai, the third son of Japheth, the middle son of Noah, is ancestor to the Medes, Persians, Afghans, and Kurds • Javan - the ancestors of the Mediterranean people, Greece, Cyprus, Spain, Tarsus, Cilicia, Italy and Rhodes. • Tubal believed to father of the Spanish, Portuguese and Italians • Meshech was the father of the Phrygians, who inhabited Turkey. • Tiras -the Albanians, Georgians, Armenians, and Chaldeans all from Cappadocia or Eastern Turkey

  42. Bible Study – Genesis Ch 10 • Noah’s descendants • Sons of Ham ( 4) – Great Inventors & Builders Cush, Mizraim, Put, Canaan • Cushis father of Sudan, and Ethiopia. • Mizraim’s descendents are easily identified with Egypt through hi sons Naphtuhim and Pathrusim • Put is coupled with Lybia, of which his decendents flourished. • Canaan, the only cursed son of Ham, increased, and from his heritage came the Hivites, Jebusites, Arvadites, Girgashites, Amorites, Arkites, Sinites, Hittites, Sidonians, Perizzites, Zemarites. As the only cursed son of Ham, is it interesting to note that his descendents became the most perverse adversaries of the Hebrews.

  43. Bible Study – Genesis Ch 10 • Noah’s descendants • Sons of Shem (5) ( Semites). - Spiritual Elam, Asshur, Arphaxed, Lud, Aram • From Elam came the Elamintes, the original inhabitants of Iran, and also Arabia • Asshur’s people were of Assyria • Arphaxed, said to be one of the ancestors of Abraham, was father of the Akkadians who lived in Iraq and built the first post-Babel empire. • From Lud came the Lydians, which became Turkey • From Aram came the Aramaic people, Armenia, Mesopotamia, and Syria.

  44. Bible Study – Genesis Ch 10 • Noah’s descendants • Each of the three sons played a colossal part in the reformation and regeneration of the world. From their lineage, we are able to see that the entire world came from those three sons. It is amazing to realize how many different races and cultures were brought into the world. The three sons, Shem, Japheth and Ham, all brought specific characteristics and giftings, planned by God, to fill the earth. Although there were mistakes made along the way, God’s will was done in everything.

  48. Bible Study – Genesis Ch 11:1:9 • Why did man want to build the Tower of Babel • They were looking for Fame (Gen 11:3) • By building a City with a High tower that reached to heaven to make a name for themselves • They wanted to unite and not be scattered (Gen 11:3) • Basically in defiance of God’s command to Noah to populate the entire world. This displeased God very much so He confused their language, and thwarted their grandiose plans.

  49. Bible Study – Genesis Ch 11:10-32

  50. Bible Study – Genesis Ch 12 2. Abram is called by God to leave Haran • What was God’s promised to Abram • I’ll make you into a great nation and bless you. • I’ll bless those who bless you • I’ll curse those who curse you • Why did Abram go to Egypt ? • Famine in the land of Canaan. • Why was Abram forced to leave Egypt ? • He lied to Pharaoh about Sarai not being his wife. Diseases fell upon Pharaoh’s household. • Abram left Egypt with great wealth, sheep, cattle, donkeys, male and maid servants. Can you recall a time in your life when the Lord blessed you by moving you out of a bad situation ?
