  2. DVDWG Meeting #8 • February 1-3, 2000, Burbank Hilton • 60 attendees, including: • Six major content suppliers:Buena Vista/Disney, e-source, Paramount, Sony Pictures, Universal, Warner Bros. • Six airlines: American, Swissair, TWA, United, Varig, Virgin Atlantic

  3. DVDWG Meeting #8 Outcome: SUCCESS! DVDs are ready to fly! • After two year's effort, the DVDWG has adopted Interim Specification 0598,"DVD Delivery for In-Flight Entertainment", version 0.9 for use by WAEA members.

  4. DVDWG Meeting #8 • Interim period for peer review and marketplace acceptance. Interpretation: • Specification 0598 is largely complete, and is suitable for use in the development, implementation and testing of products and systems.

  5. Specification 0598 • Major sections: • Reference Model • Specification of Interfaces • Authoring and Navigation Req. • Security Req. • DVD Media Loaders • Norm. & Info. Annexes • Metadata Annex • Security Data File

  6. DVDWG Membership • 210 individuals on current membership roster, including 17 airlines: • American, Britannia, Cathay Pacific, Delta, Emirates, Fiji, JAL, Lufthansa, Malev Hungarian, Northwest, Qantas, SAS, Swissair, TWA, United, Varig & Virgin.

  7. DVDWG Statistics • 165 individuals from 90 companies actively participated in the eight general meetings of the DVDWG. • 428 attendance entries for the eight general meetings • 1083 man-days • 3 man-years!

  8. Meeting #8 Resolutions The DVDWG: 1) Adopts Interim Specification 0598, version 0.9. 2) Urges all WAEA members to perform a peer review and technical due diligence on Interim Specification 0598, version 0.9, and contribute comments on the Specification for the purpose of progressing the Specification to version 1.0 in a timely manner. 3) Instructs the DVDWG Co-Chairs to distribute the Interim Specification 0.9 widely and as soon as possible to WAEA members and other relevant organizations for peer review and technical due diligence, including ARINC/AEEC, CPTWG, DVD Forum, MPAA, SDMI and SMPTE.

Meeting #8 Resolutions The DVDWG: 4) Further instructs the DVDWG Co-Chairs to submit the Interim Specification 0598, version 0.9, to the WAEA Technology Committee and WAEA Board of Directors. 5) Thanks the DVD Forum for finalizing their procedures for Region 8 DVD devices and urges manufacturers to produce such devices and make them available to the IFE market for Late Window Content as defined in Interim Specification 0598, version 0.9. 6) Urges airlines to confer with content providers on the availability of Late Window Content and Early Window Content prior to making hardware commitments.

WAEA-TC Resolution Subject: APPROVAL & ADOPTION OF INTERIM SPECIFICATION 0598, VERSION 0.9 From: World Airline Entertainment Association Technology Committee (WAEA-TC) Date: February 16, 2000 THE WAEA-TC: 1. APPROVES and adopts Interim Specification 0598 ("DVD Delivery for In-Flight Entertainment"), version 0.9, as reported by the DVD Working Group (DVDWG), dated February 3, 2000. 2. URGES all WAEA members to review Interim Specification 0598 and submit comments by October 1, 2000, for the purpose of progressing the specification to version 1.0. 3. FURTHER URGES all WAEA members to comply with the provisions of Interim Specification 0598, version 0.9, in the development, implementation and testing of DVD devices and systems for in-flight entertainment. 4. AGREES to reconvene the DVDWG in the fourth quarter of 2000 for the purpose of considering comments on the Interim Specification 0598, version 0.9, and its progression to Specification 0598, version 1.0. 5. THANKS the membership of the DVDWG for its good and timely work in preparing Interim Specification 0598, version 0.9.
