  2. Advanced Core Classes • Language Arts • Algebra 1 (EOC exam for high school credit) • Science • Civics Electives: • Spanish 1 (high school credit) • PE • Prep Class

  4. Language Arts • Novel-based Curriculum (2 per 9 weeks) • The Giver - A Wrinkle in Time • Tangerine - Adventures of Tom Sawyer • E-Readers for novels • Grammar lessons • Focus on developing vocabulary – including Latin/Greek roots

  5. Algebra 1 Honors • Saxon Curriculum • High school credit upon completion of course/End of Course Exam • Study Hall option Mon/Wed/Thurs until 3:30pm to assist students • STEM approach – Science/Algebra will be blocked together in order to encourage the integration of curriculum

  6. Science • Following BPS scope and sequence for Advanced Program • Topics include: Practice of Science, Forms of Energy/Transformation, Interdependence, Earth Structures, Diversity and Evolution of Living Organisms, Heredity and Reproduction • Adding Core Knowledge curriculum • Topics include: Atomic Structure, Chemical Bonds/Reactions, History of the Earth/Evolution • Utilizing Discovery Education online curriculum/ Core Knowledge

Civics • Following BPS scope and sequence for World Cultures Civics Transition Unit • Topics include: Western Europe, Africa and Asia, Europe: War and Change, Government • Adding Core Knowledge curriculum • Topics include: WWI, The Russian Revolution, America from the Twenties to New Deal, WWII and Geography of the United States • Utilizing Discovery Education’s online curriculum and Core Knowledge curriculum

  8. “Electives” • Spanish 1 -7th grade • Spanish 2 -8th grade • McGraw Hill Asi se Dice curriculum • PE • Prep class – focus on high school prep skills including typing, notetaking, organization, research writing, speeches,

Week-long Study Trip • As part of the Spanish program students will learn about the Geography and culture of Spanish countries – including Costa Rica. • We will work to raise funds, draft sponsor letters, keep a spreadsheet of funds raised • The trip will take place the summer after 8th grade • Participating through Discovery Education Student Adventures www.discoverystudentadventures.com

  10. After School Activities • National Junior Honor Society • Peer Mentoring • Student Council • In addition to Study Hall, clubs will continue to be offered

Technology • Science/Math classroom will have a true SmartBoard • Student Response Systems will be used in all classes • Personal laptop/e-reader • Instruction in software and uses • Online interactive assignments • Classrooms will have a table/chair setup to accommodate two students per table with the students’ books/computers set up
