Earth is the only planet named after a deity, with the Roman goddess Tellus and Greek goddess Gaia representing it. Our atmosphere is primarily oxygen, with a small amount of carbon dioxide. A day lasts 24 hours while a year is 364 days. Earth’s layered structure consists of the crust, mantle, and core.   2. Earth was the only planet that was named after a Greek or Roman God or goddess. In Roman Mythology the goddess of Earth was Tellus, the fertile soil (Greek: Gaia, Terra Mater- Mother Earth).
