  1. The Legend Of Zelda

  2. Link Link has almost no spoken dialogue in the game series outside the CD-i series of games from The Legend of Zelda. Facial expression has only been visible since the series appeared on the Nintendo 64. Miyamoto has said in interviews that his conceptualization of The Legend of Zelda, and of Link, was based on his childhood memories of books, movies, stories and personal experiences. He tried to make people identify with Link and have the opportunity to be heroes like the character. Although at the end of some games Link becomes vastly talented in physical and magical arts, he usually starts off the game as a regular boy.

  3. Zelda Princess Zelda is often showed as beautiful and elegant princess (either as child, teen or young adult), except for Skyward Sword, since she is never shown as princess but as an incarnation of Hylia. Her hair color sometimes is depicted as blonde (Skyward Sword, Ocarina of Time, etc.), dirty blonde (Twilight Princess), brunette (The Legend of Zelda) and even ginger (The Adventure of Link). Her eyes are always depicted in different tones of blue throughout all the games. Her ears are pointy, since she's a Hylian, though in some games her ears tend to be shorter than in others. The dresses that she always uses tends to be long with determinate colors, such as: different tones of pink, white and blue. Most of the dresses are shown with the Hylian Crest, and in almost every game, she tends to have tiara with either a Red or Blue Rupee in it. In some games, she is shown to have long gloves. Most of the time, Princess Zelda is seen wearing make up (The Wind Waker, Spirit Tracks), and her hairstyle tends to be either with her hair down or with braids. She wears high heels, although in Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword, it is revealed that she wears boots.

  4. Ganondorf Ganondorf is commonly portrayed as the incarnation of pure evil, greed, and power. He is ruthless, cold, and calculating. He is also shown to have an ego, believing that only he is worthy to rule the kingdom and showing an arrogant sense of entitlement. One of Ganondorf’s most defining traits is his unquenchable lust for power. Many of his actions are driven by his unending hunger to increase his dominion over the world. In Ocarina of Time, even after having taken control of Hyrule and possessing the Triforce of Power, Ganondorf is still unsatisfied and continues to seek the other pieces of the Triforce.

  5. Navi At the beginning of the game, the Great Deku Tree (in the depths of Kokiri Forest) senses a looming power that threatens to destroy Hyrule. He asks Navi, one of his fairy children, to bring a young boy named Link to see him. Unlike the rest of the inhabitants of the forest, Link does not have a guardian fairy companion. Navi arrives in Link's House, and is surprised to see what a small and seemingly lazy child Link is, not believing him capable of handling the tasks the Great Deku Tree will set upon him. Despite this, she tells Link about the Great Deku Tree's summoning, and together, they travel to the grove of the wise tree. The Great Deku Tree tells the two about a curse placed on him by an outsider, and asks them to travel inside him to break the curse. They do indeed dispel the curse by defeating Queen Gohma; however, the Great Deku Tree reveals that he was fated to die no matter what the outcome of their excursion into his insides would be. He explains that he was cursed by the Gerudo mystic Ganondorf, who had been seeking the Spiritual Stones — magical stones that have the power to open the door to the Sacred Realm, where the omnipotent Triforce can be found. He asks them to stop Ganondorf from achieving this at all costs, and after presenting them with the Kokiri's Emerald, tells them to travel to Hyrule Castle and converse with Princess Zelda, who resides there. The Great Deku Tree in his final words before dying, remarks that the future depends on Link, and entreats Navi to help him carry out his will.

  6. Sheik After having retrieved the Spiritual Stones in order to prevent Ganondorf from finding the Sacred Realm, Link sees Princess Zelda and her nursemaid Impa ride away from the gates of Hyrule Castle Town. Zelda desperately throws the Ocarina of Time to Link and rides out of sight. Ganondorf appears shortly thereafter, chasing after Zelda and Impa after knocking Link down with magic. Link enters the Temple of Time and opens the Door of Time with the "Song of Time" and the Spiritual Stones. Inside the chamber past the door, he finds the Master Sword, and upon drawing it from the Pedestal of Time, he is sealed away in the Temple of Light for seven years. Seeing his chance, Ganondorf invades the Sacred Realm and steals the Triforce. However, due to his imbalance, the Triforce splits into three pieces, leaving only the Triforce of Power in his possession. Despite this, he uses the power of the Triforce of Power to attack Hyrule Castle and assume control over the land of Hyrule.

  7. Saria Saria appears for the first time when Link exits his house after having been summoned to an audience with the Great Deku Tree by Navi. She initially expresses great excitement towards Link's meeting with the Guardian of the Forest, but senses trouble on the horizon and advises him to find the proper equipment just in case. After the Deku Tree tasks Link with the quest to find Princess Zelda, Saria approaches her friend as he is about to leave the forest. Although she appears to be greatly saddened by his departure, Saria assures him that she always knew that he was different from the other Kokiri. She then entrusts him with a Fairy Ocarina as a memento of everything that he is leaving behind. At a loss for words, she watches with a sorrowful expression as he exits through the tunnel leading into the larger Land of Hyrule.

  8. Darunia Seeking the Spiritual Stone of Fire, better known as the Goron's Ruby, the Gerudo mystic Ganondorf demanded Darunia hand over the stone to him. Darunia refused and took the Goron Ruby away from its altar in the center of Goron City, and as a result, Ganondorf blocked the entrance to Dodongo's Cavern, the Goron's main supply of food, with a huge boulder and filled the cavern with Dodongos to deter the Gorons from obtaining food from the cave should they be able to dispatch of the boulder. As food was getting more and more scarce, Darunia feared for the survival of his people, and sealed himself and the Goron's Ruby within his throne room.

  9. Impa Impa is the loyal protector of Princess Zelda, and one of the Sheikah left in Hyrule. Unlike in other Legend of Zelda games, Impa is much thinner and younger. She is a great asset to the Royal Family and has sworn to protect Princess Zelda. After Link talks with Princess Zelda, Impa appears and teaches him "Zelda's Lullaby" and helps him get out of Hyrule Castle. She also explains to Link that he should go to Kakariko Village, a former Sheikah town where she was born and raised, which she opened to non-Sheikah. Prior to the events of Ocarina of Time, Impa sealed the evil spirit Bongo Bongo in the bottom of the Well of Three Features. When Ganondorf attacks Hyrule Castle Town, Impa helps Princess Zelda escape on a white horse, and the princess throws the Ocarina of Time to Link. It is possible that Impa taught Zelda the ways of the Sheikah, so she could hide herself from Ganondorf as Sheik.

  10. Talon Talon makes his first appearance. Here, Link first finds him sleeping outside Hyrule Castle. He had fallen asleep while waiting to deliver Lon Lon Milk to the Royal Family of Hyrule, and Link had been asked, by Malon, to find out where he was. He awakens Talon with a Cucco, and Talon hurries back to apologize to Malon. When Link returns to Lon Lon Ranch, Talon holds a special mini-game known as the Super Cucco-Finding Game. In this game, Link must find his three special Super Cuccos before the time limit runs out. If he manages to accomplish this, Talon gives him a Bottle full of Milk. He also jokingly asks if Link wants to marry Malon.

  11. Malon Malon, Talon, and Ingo work at Lon Lon Ranch in Hyrule Field. Link first meets her in Hyrule Castle Town, where she tells him that her father has gone missing while delivering Lon Lon Milk to Hyrule Castle. He is given the Weird Egg, which hatches into a Cucco. Link eventually finds Malon's father sleeping near Hyrule Castle. He wakes him up with the newborn Cucco. Fearing Malon's rage, Talon flees back to the ranch to apologize. Malon can later teach Link "Epona's Song" on the Ocarina. When he plays this, the usually shy horse Epona rushes to Link.

  12. Ingo Ingo is a hard-working farmhand, employed by Talon, the owner of Lon Lon Ranch. Ingo always gets the biggest load of work, while the lazy Talon does nearly nothing. His dissension eventually grows into a dislike for Talon, but he stresses that there isn't much he can do about it. After Ganondorf enters the Sacred Realm, takes the Triforce, and claims the throne of Hyrule for himself, however, Ingo is given control over Lon Lon Ranch, which he renames Ingo Ranch. He promptly kicks Talon out and works his daughter, Malon, very hard, even going so far as threatening to mistreat the ranch's horses if she does not obey him. Ingo also plans to present Ganondorf with the horse Epona, but finds taming her to be too much of a hassle.

  13. King Zora The Zora who gives Link a pair of Flippers in A Link to the Past is stated to be the Zora King in BS Zelda no Densetsu Kodai no Sekiban. Whether or not he is truly the King Zora is unknown as he is never referred to such in A Link to the Past. It is also unknown if River Zoras and Sea Zoras have different government systems. King Zora XVI is the lord of Zora's Domain and the father of Princess Ruto. Speaking to him with a certain item in a bottle is necessary to gain access to two dungeons in the game. To get Inside Jabu-Jabu's Belly, Link must show him a message written by Princess Ruto.

  14. Epona Epona is first encountered at Lon Lon Ranch when she is only a young foal. Epona initially acts wild and untamed towards Link, shying away from him when he approaches her. Only Malon is able to get close to Epona. After Malon teaches Link "Epona's Song" on his Fairy Ocarina, Epona develops a fondness for Link and stops acting wildly around him. When Link returns to Lon Lon Ranch as an adult, Epona has become a mare. Unfortunately, Ingo, the ranch's caretaker, has been given control of the ranch by Ganondorf, the King of Evil.
