  3. Click to go back Stage 1 • The butterfly lays an egg. • She lays her eggs on plants that her young can feed on.

  4. Click to go back Stage 2 • In the 2nd stage the eggs hatch into a caterpillar. • Caterpillars eat twice their weight in leaves every day! • Then they out grow their skin, which causes their skin to shed.

  5. Click to go back Stage 3 • This stage is called pupa, its when they rest inside silken cocoons. • In the cocoons they will rest for 2 weeks. • Inside the cocoon they will change into a butterfly.

  6. Click to go back Stage 4 • The Butterfly emerges from the cocoon. • Blood flows through the veins helping them to open up and spread out. • Then the butterfly is ready to fly.
