1. Here’s How Material Handling Solutions Can Help Breweries and Distilleries Maintain Hygiene

2. Introduction • If there is a bigger challenge for breweries and distilleries besides manufacturing the beverages, it is their storage and transportation. Being highly inflammable, alcoholic beverages require extra care and attention in the supply process. Moreover, storing them under hygienic conditions while transporting them across long distances has become all the more crucial during the COVID-19 phase. • In this scenario, good-quality material handling solutions act as saviours for breweries to efficiently transport the beverages while maintaining utmost hygiene and preventing mishaps. So, how can material handling tools such as plastic crates, racking systems and pallets help breweries and distilleries to maintain hygiene? Here’s a look:

3. Plastic Crates • One of the sturdiest and most popular material handling choices for the storage and transportation of beverages is plastic crates. Bottle crates made of plastic consist of intricately designed bottle-slots on which breweries may load the bottles securely while transporting them across long distances. The best-quality plastic crates are easy to clean and maintain; this helps to prevent the growth of fungi or termites on their surfaces. This is also one of the major advantages of plastic crates over the wooden ones.

4. Plastic Pallets • It is not always sufficient to have crates with provisions to carry the bottles – plastic pallets are essential to carry these loaded crates and further ease their transportation process. Sturdy pallets are well-suited to carry very heavy, breweries can place loaded crates on to sturdy plastic pallets. Good-quality pallets are not only made of the best plastic but also consist of additional safety features such as perforated top decks with anti-skid grommets; stretch wrap ribs at their edges; and provisions for strap-belt hooks. Such features ensure that the bottles are even more firmly fastened on to the pallets and crates they have been loaded into, thus eliminating any chances of skidding and spillage.

5. Pallet Racking Systems • Good-quality material handling solutions prove useful not only in the transportation process but also while storing the beverages in internal spaces like factories or storage rooms. Pallet racking systems made of plastic can be conveniently installed even in cold storage chambers to accommodate multiple bottles at a time. Such storage systems help distilleries and breweries to organize their beverages better and avoid chaos. These systems also facilitate better cleaning of the indoor spaces where the goods are stored on a regular basis.

6. Conveyor Belts • Another essential material handling solution for breweries and distilleries is installing conveyor belts in the premises. Conveyor belts consist of large extended loops to transport heavyweight products between two points located at a distance from each other within the same area. This helps the staff-members to practise social distancing even while resuming their daily tasks and adjusting to the new normal.

7. Cold Storage Solutions • While preserving beverages, one of the most important criteria to keep in mind is the temperature at which these are stored. That is why breweries and distilleries can hugely benefit from installing inbuilt cold storage solutions. These can contain provisions and racks spacious enough to accommodate many bottles, bottle crates, loaded pallets and containers. Such solutions also ensure that utmost hygiene is

8. Conclusion • Breweries and distilleries already have their hands full with manufacturing, processing and packaging the beverages to perfection.
