  1. Expert Working Group for National Union Catalogue Standards Report to TPSAC: 27 February 2009, Wellington

Terms of Reference • Develop a training initiative in conjunction with OCLC aimed at improving New Zealand cataloguers knowledge of the OCLC cataloguing tools, reference librarians knowledge of Firstsearch and also aimed at raising awareness of the OCLC services available as part of the NLNZ : OCLC agreement. • Develop training and support material to support new libraries wanting to take up the OSMOSIS process. • Review the minimum level of bibliographic standards required for the National Union Catalogue, participation in WorldCat and use of the OSMOSIS process. Note: TPSAC suggested that NLNZ could come up with a ‘straw man’ standard for the EWG to then pull apart and reshape. • Share information and discuss preliminary planning around the introduction of RDA.

TPSAC expectations of the Working Group • Initial meeting in February to scope the work and initial discussion on 'straw man' document standards • Draft approach for TPSAC to consider for both the training initiative and the standards work by end of March 2009. • Project work complete by 30 June 2009

  5. Developments • Two major streams of work • Review the minimum level of bibliographic standards • to incorporate OSMOSIS and WorldCat cataloguing • what is developed needs to be cognizant of RDA • OCLC Training Initiative • Needs to be at the level between Roadshow, of July 2007 and training

  6. Next steps • Develop Strawman …. Stoneman ….Ironman • Draft approach for TPSAC to consider for both the training initiative and the standards work by end of March 2009.
