Definitions • Satire: ridicules society in order to inspire change • Juvenalian: bitter, angry, or dark tone • Horatian: lighthearted or humorous tone • Can you think of some examples of satire from TV and/or film ? • What do your examples ridicule? What changes might they be attempting to inspire? • Are your examples Juvenalian or Horatian?

  3. Modest Proposal Project • Write your own Modest Proposal in the style of Jonathan Swift. Here are the requirements: • Imitate Swift's dark, shocking style. • Your proposal should be an outrageous or ridiculous solution to a problem you see in today's society. However, you should take a tone that sounds completely serious. • Create an illustration of your proposal in color. You must put the illustration together yourself, even if you do not draw it. Be creative. • 2 pages of TEXT minimum (does not include illustration).
