  3. You are asked to: Explore, create, and produce a stop motion animation based on real life study and 2 of the non-verbal communication traits. This should show your technical and creative ability in using drawing, processes ad your understanding of how animation can communicate a theme. Explore the theme of ‘Listen with your eyes’, demonstrate an understanding of communication and the use of various software, media and materials.

  5. What processes are used • Life drawing of faces and hands • Creating mood and atmosphere • 3D modelling using software • Creating storyboards • Building models • Stop motion photography • Using software to compile your finished animation

  6. The Brief Project start 4th Feb 2014Reviewdate 11th Mar 14 Deadline 8th April 2014, 3:30pm Things we are going to consider: • Time management & organisation are key to this project • What camera equipment can you use? • What Location works best for your theme? • Is your Image choice fit for purpose? • Can I work professionally within a group • How can I produce some amazing images for the exhibition? • Have I followed Health and Safety regulations

  7. Focus of the brief Explore elements of communication through time based media and visual language and the creation of a real life study. From this study you will create a caricature and produce a stop motion animation using the skills gained in your first project. This can be either 2D or 3D but for the production methods, you need to research ‘fitness for purpose’.

  8. Tasks Unit 4: Communication through art & design • Explain and evaluate how ideas, meanings and processes are conveyed through the materials and media used in your project. P1, M1 • Create your own visual language skills whilst drawing on your own experiences to produce outcomes that show your skills in using materials, media and processes. P2, M1 • Be able to communicate and describe ways in which visual language is used, show your ideas and meanings based on the theme. P3, M2 • To communicate to a specific audience your intended meaning to the project based on the theme using imaginative language of art and design. P4, M2, D1

  9. Tasks Unit 59: Stop Motion Animation Production • Extensively describe the techniques and development of your stop motion animation using correct terminology. P1, M1, D1 • Generate ideas that are detailed and thought through based on your stop motion animation looking at sound and creative technical processes. P2, M2, D2 • Produce a stop motion animation based on the theme which is technically proficient. P3, M3, D3 • Evaluate the audiences responses towards your stop motion animation with regard to your ideas based on the theme. P4, M4, D4

  10. Working methods • To work to a specific theme with strict deadlines and a target audience • Research historical and contemporary animators and artists who have illustrated characters and gestures. Alongside this you will research the concepts and theories of non-verbal communication. • Work independently to produce outcomes that meet the requirements of the brief. • Demonstrate an understanding of computer editing software and camera techniques. • Taking digital images relating to the theme to use within the production of your stop motion animation.

  11. Websites and books Use the following to help you get started: • http://psychology.about.com/od/personalitydevelopment/a/bigfive.htm • http://psychology.about.com/od/nonverbalcommunication/a/nonverbaltypes.htm • How To Draw Caricatures (paperback) Lenn Redman (author). • How To Draw Portraits, Faces and Heads (paperback) Mark Bergin (author).
