  1. Antichrist and the End Times AET-013 and 014: The EU Theory and Javier Solano

  2. Antichrist Theories • There are many theories about the identity of the Antichrist, with five having the most credibility and following. • 1. Antichrist comes from the European Union. • 2. Antichrist is a Jew. • 3. Antichrist comes from the United States. • 4. Antichrist comes from a secret organization. • 5. Antichrist comes from Islam. LWBC

  3. Antichrist Theories • 1. Antichrist comes from the European Union. • This is the more modern version of the Roman empire/papal conspiracy theory that has been around in one form or another since the founding of the Catholic Church. • It was promulgated, of course, by those who lived in the Western Roman Empire and viewed the Pope as the antichrist or at least a false prophet. • Prime suspects are Prince Charles and the head of the European Union, Javier Solano, our topic for today. LWBC

  4. Antichrist Theories • 2. Antichrist is a Jew. • This theory arose from a single passage of Scripture which states that the Antichrist would leave the faith of his fathers. • It is supported by the conjecture that the Jews would not accept as “messiah” anyone from any other religion such as Islam or Christianity. LWBC

  5. Antichrist Theories • 3. Antichrist comes from the United States. • This is a relatively recent theory that evolved from the basic fact that the United States isthe major power in the world at present, therefore it must be the major power of the last days. • Support for it has been bolstered recently by the election of Barack Obama, a Muslim turned Christian who enjoys worldwide adoration and vision. LWBC

  6. Antichrist Theories • 4. Antichrist comes from a secret/nongovernmental organization. • Various entities have been implicated in these theories, such as the United Nations, the Illuminati, the Council on Foreign Relations, the Club of Rome; and on international financial groups such as the International Monetary Fund or the G-7. LWBC

  7. Antichrist Theories • 5. Antichrist comes from Islam. • This theory, recently revived due to the activity of the jihadists, was first offered during the initial rise of Islam and its domination of the Middle East, North Africa, and southern Europe. • Islamic speculation waned as Islam became less and less of a threat over the ensuing centuries, until its revival in the Arab oil states over the last 50 years. LWBC

  8. The European Roman Empire Theory • “Are you American or Canadian? Ever here of Javier Solana? If not, its not surprising, there seems almost a coordinated effort to not mention him on this side of the Atlantic. • There was so much good info floating around on this man, but what seems to be almost a news blackout of his coming and goings, I thought it deserved its own topic. LWBC

  9. The European Roman Empire Theory • And he will make a firm covenant with the many for one week, but in the middle of the week he will put a stop to sacrifice and grain offering; and on the wing of abominations will come one who makes desolate, even until a complete destruction, one that is decreed, is poured out on the one who makes desolate (Daniel 9:27 New America Standard Bible). LWBC

  10. The European Roman Empire Theory • It is commonly believed the passage above foretells the rise of a strong leader from out of a revived Roman Empire who will make, or confirm, a covenant with the many for seven years. • Israel will be included in this covenant. • As far as Israel is concerned, he will violate his covenant 3 1/2 years later. • In other passages from Daniel, we learn this leader will rise from among a 10-nation alliance (Daniel 7:7-8) and subdue three of the 10 kings (Daniel 7:24). LWBC

  11. The European Roman Empire Theory • In the New Testament book of Revelation, we learn that this leader will somehow be identified with the number 666 (Revelation 13: 18). • In December of 1998, at their Vienna summit, the EU's heads created the new Office of High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy for the European Union. • The holder of this Office would direct their common foreign policy toward Russia, Ukraine and the Mediterranean. LWBC

  12. The European Roman Empire Theory • Out of over 1150 documents they generated at the summit, the document that created this Office happened to be numbered 666. • On June 5, 2000, the WEU adopted its Assembly Recommendation 666. • This document recommended keeping the 10 Brussels Treaty Powers together as the EU's new military wing and giving the EU's High Representative emergency powers over the whole EU, putting the office holder over the EU presidency. LWBC

  13. The European Roman Empire Theory • In March of 2005, one year after the Madrid train bombings, world leaders met in Madrid to discuss the EU's and the international community's war against terror. • The EU decided the U.S. war was going nowhere, nothing much had been accomplished over that last year. • It was noted that the EU member states were reluctant to give Solana what he needed to get the job done. LWBC

  14. The European Roman Empire Theory • What this really meant was, the EU "big three" -- France, Germany and the UK -- were still standing in Solana's way. • In other words, in order for Solana to do his job leading the EU's foreign and security policy, the EU "big three" must somehow be subdued. (See Bible quote above) • Interestingly, the EU "big three" leaders were all on the scene in 1999 when the Office of High Representative was first occupied by Solana. LWBC

  15. The European Roman Empire Theory • And, they were all members of the 10-nation alliance. • These 3 super countries could very well be the three kings who are destined to be subdued according to Daniel 7:24? • If this turns out to be true and with the new financing Solana gets next year at the start of his 7 year period, we should see him make some big strides in bringing peace to the middle east...” - abovetopsecret.com post by “Wassabi LWBC

  16. The European Roman Empire Theory • Eubusiness.com: • European support for the UN force in Lebanon has thrust Europe into a major new political role in the Middle East, a region where it has traditionally been better known as a rich aid donor, officials and analysts said. • With nearly 7,000 soldiers pledged for the UN force in Lebanon, Europe's commitment marks an "historic opportunity", said Spanish Foreign Minister Miquel Angel Moratinos, himself a former special EU envoy to the region. LWBC

  17. The European Roman Empire Theory • "The time has come for European efforts to relaunch peace in the Middle East," he said Friday after his EU counterparts met in Brussels with UN chief Kofi Annan. • "Europeans are gaining more in credibility, in presence and engagement in the future of this region, which is our region," he said. LWBC

  18. The European Roman Empire Theory • Italy, which will be the the force's biggest contributor with up to 3,000 soldiers and which will take over its command next February from France, was hopeful that the commitment would mark a new era of EU influence in the region. • "It's the first time that Europe assumes such a strong responsibility in the region and we hope there will be a change, not only for the stabilisation of the border between Israel and Lebanon, but also to push peace in the whole region" said Italian Foreign Minister Massimo D'Alema. LWBC

  19. The European Roman Empire Theory • European countries promised at the meeting of the 25-nation bloc's foreign ministers on Friday to provide not only the core of the expanded UN force, which is due to total up to 15,000 peacekeepers. • Until now, the EU's role in the Middle East has largely been limited to providing aid and trying to play the honest broker in the volatile region's many conflicts. LWBC

  20. The European Roman Empire Theory • But the Centre for European Reform's foreign policy director, Mark Leonard, said that the presence of a large number of European troops not only reinforced Europe's credibility with regional players, but could also mark the beginning of a new "strategic" role. • "The EU has not behaved in a very strategic way in the past, it has not used the resources that it's put into the region toward political goals and increasing its leverage," he said from London. LWBC

  21. The European Roman Empire Theory • "But if several members states are directly exposed and have troops on the ground, the EU will have both more credibility but will also behave in a more strategic way," he added. • Europe's new found role comes as the United States standing in the region takes a battering due its staunch support for Israel, its difficulties in Iraq and Iran's defiance to back down on its nuclear ambitions. LWBC

  22. The European Roman Empire Theory • "For us, the Middle East is a question of stability, our stability. We are so close while for the Americans it's different," said Cristina Gallach, spokeswoman for EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana. • The head of the French Institute for International Relations' Brussels branch, Pierre Defraigne, said Europe's new commitment to the region could level out the influence of United States and its ally, Israel, although ambitious new plans were needed if the EU is to help shape peace in the region. LWBC

  23. The European Roman Empire Theory • "In principle, it gives us leverage with the Americans and the Israelis, but on condition that we have a better idea (than theirs) for peace in the region," he said. • "If you don't have grand designs, then you are only filling the leaks," he said, adding that Europe should also focus on improving people's lives in the region if root problems are to be addressed. • As soon as a meeting of EU foreign ministers next Friday in Finland, Solana would "try to get across to everybody that now is the moment to act", said Gallach. LWBC

  24. The European Roman Empire Theory • The peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians have been carried out far too slowly since last November's Annapolis summit, European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana told Haaretz. • Solana said in an interview on Friday that "it is true that in this process of negotiations, the more determined one is, the better chances of getting an agreement in the [stipulated] time frame .... I think that it has been done too slowly at the beginning and that probably this is the mistake that has been made." - eubusiness.com LWBC

  25. The European Roman Empire Theory • Solana arrived in Israel Friday morning and had meetings with Israeli and Palestinian officials in Tel Aviv and Ramallah. • Solana said he has doubts over whether a deal can be completed by the end of the year, saying that the longer the sides wait to go forward with talks, the less they are likely to succeed. • "Because time is shorter, it will more difficult to do," Solana said. LWBC

  26. The European Roman Empire Theory • "I think we have to maintain the momentum and we will have to see some results before the end of the year". • He added that in 2009 "it will be much more complicated to do." • So, who is Javier Solana? LWBC

  27. The European Roman Empire Theory • The EU's Javier Solana - one smooth end times operator • by Michael G. Mickey (8-30-05) • Shortly after I placed one of my recent commentaries online concerning the European Union's current and ever-growing role in pursuing peace in the Middle East, I received an e-mail from someone who wanted to know what I was implying in making so many references to the European Union's foreign policy chief, Doctor Javier Solana, in the commentary. LWBC

  28. The European Roman Empire Theory • While the obvious answer to his question is I refer to him so much because he is the European Union's High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy, I was struck by how utterly impossible it was, in the opinion of this reader, that a man like Solana could even possibly be considered to be a candidate to be revealed as the Antichrist in the prophetic future. • Solana, according to the author of the e-mail, wasn't young, charming, or handsome enough to become the ultimate embodiment of human evil and the world's final global dictator leading up to the return of Jesus Christ. LWBC

  29. The European Roman Empire Theory • Solana, from this individual's perspective, is nothing but a has-been in international diplomacy - a man on his way out. • Respectfully, I disagreed with that person's opinion in several follow-up e-mails wherein I addressed what I believe are some misperceptions many people have, both concerning the persona and appearance of the prophesied Antichrist, as well as the the diplomatic prowess of the revived Roman empire's current foreign policy chief, Javier Solana. LWBC

  30. The European Roman Empire Theory • Where did we get the idea that, when the Antichrist is ultimately revealed in the prophetic future, he will be found to be young, handsome, and exceedingly charming? • The only Scriptures I can think of that possibly describe the physical appearance of the Antichrist is Daniel 7:20, which states his look will be "more stout" (or great) than his fellows, and Daniel 8:23, which refers to him as a "king of fierce countenance." LWBC

  31. The European Roman Empire Theory • Neither of these Scriptures lead me to think he will be a handsome young lad, but they do, on the other hand, lead me to believe he will be tenacious and very politically ambitious, even power hungry. • What conclusions can we reach concerning the persona and appearance of the Antichrist, based on Bible prophecy? LWBC

  32. The European Roman Empire Theory • The prophesied Antichrist: • will be an intellectual capable of speaking great words (Daniel 7:20, Revelation 13:5). • will look more stout (or great) than his fellows (Daniel 7:20, Daniel 8:23). • will be a military genius (Daniel 8:24, Revelation 13:7). • will be an economic genius (Daniel 8:25). LWBC

  33. The European Roman Empire Theory • The prophesied Antichrist: • will be a tactful diplomat capable of gathering many people to unite in action alongside him (Daniel 9:27). • will, ironically, be seen as a peacemaker initially (Daniel 8:25, Daniel 9:27). • will be exceedingly arrogant and self-worshipping, whether it seems so initially or not (Daniel 8:25, 2nd Thessalonians 2:4). • will despise both Jews and Christians, which will not, in all likelihood, be apparent initially (Revelation 13:7, Zechariah 13:8-9, Revelation 12:17). LWBC

  34. The European Roman Empire Theory • Now, concerning the person of Javier Solana, could he, in theory, meet the criteria to be revealed as the Antichrist in the prophetic future? Sure! • He's a former head of NATO and current head of the European Union's ten-nation military alliance, an intellectual who holds a doctorate in solid-state physics, an economics genius as demonstrated by his contributions to the World Economic Forum and numerous trade agreements he's played a prominent role in implementing on behalf of the EU, as well as a foreign policy expert in acting out his current role as the EU's High Representative. LWBC

  35. The European Roman Empire Theory • And what of Solana's personal diplomatic and communication skills? They're amazing, as I'm about to demonstrate. • Referring back to the e-mail debate I had with a reader of my site concerning Solana as a potential candidate for the role of Antichrist for a moment before moving forward to address Solana's personal diplomatic and communication skills, the reader who e-mailed me stated one of the reasons Solana, in his opinion, could never be revealed to be the Antichrist is no one in Israel trusts him - a comment I said was baseless, offending my brother in Christ somewhat I fear, although that wasn't my intention. LWBC

  36. The European Roman Empire Theory • We know the Europeans and Solana are trusted by the Palestinians, but is Solana trusted by the Israeli government of Ariel Sharon? • I believe I'm about to shock many people when I say this, but he absolutely is, as explicitly demonstrated by the following excerpt from a Haaretz article: • Solana is one of the few foreign statesmen who really knows the Israeli political and security establishments. When he visits here, his schedule is always fully booked with meetings, interviews and informal conversations. LWBC

  37. The European Roman Empire Theory • Officials at Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's bureau consider him a key liaison to the international community - a man with great influence in the Palestinian Authority and great sensitivity for Israel's problems. Sharon's adviser, Dov Weissglas, frequently speaks to him by phone, bringing him into the picture during crises. LWBC

  38. The European Roman Empire Theory • As I've been reporting, Javier Solana - a trusted diplomatic representative of the revived Roman empire of Bible prophecy - is wrapping up, as I write this commentary, a three-day visit to the Middle East during which he discussed the possibility of the EU playing a larger role in Middle East peacemaking efforts. • Although I have no idea who will ultimately be revealed to be the Antichrist, I'll tell you this and you can take it to the bank: LWBC

  39. The European Roman Empire Theory • If we're nearing the advent of the Antichrist and he is actively seeking a means through which to rise to greater power than any world leader ever has before, the European Union's Javier Solana is currently paving the way for him to make his rise to the top of the diplomatic world through the confirmation of a seven-year covenant of peace in the Middle East by actively and, apparently, successfully advocating the Palestinians and Israelis to allow the EU to play a larger role in Middle East peacemaking than it ever has before while acting as a member of the international Quartet of Russia, the United States, the United Nations, and the European Union. LWBC

  40. The European Roman Empire Theory • ("The Quartet" June 22, 2003
"The Quartet" is the name given to four entities who seem to be gathering the power to command Israel. • They are, the United States, the United Nations, the European Union, and Russia. • This union is highly praised by George Bush, and it is a strange base of power indeed. • Never in the history of the nations of Europe and the West have these four called a "divan" to do serious business without other powers being included. • Two nations, and two unions. LWBC

  41. The European Roman Empire Theory • This makes it very clear that Europe and the UN cannot match the force of two single nations, the USA and Russia. • They welcome the very positive message and personal commitment of President Bush, and his decision to place a mission on the ground charged with helping the parties to move toward peace, through establishment of a credible and effective structure led by the United States, in close cooperation with the Quartet, to coordinate, monitor, and promote implementation of the parties' commitments and responsibilities, as laid out in the roadmap. • Solana, being on hand, and recognizing the power of the USA to be equal that of the EU, tells us where the future lies with Solana-- With either the USA or Russia, OR BOTH.) LWBC

  42. The European Roman Empire Theory • By Solana, himself: • “The Development of a Common Foreign and Security Policy of the EU and the role of its
High Representative • Javier Solana, Secretary-General of the Council of the European Union, about his new function and a short outlook about his vision of a Common European Foreign and Security Policy.” LWBC

  43. The European Roman Empire Theory • The European Union is today a positive factor for peace not just in the wider Europe but around the world. It offers a model for regional integration as a guarantee for peace. • It is a potent symbol of reconciliation between former enemies. It stands for democratic values. • That is why Europe should play a more active role in ensuring that the world is more secure and stable. • In the past, Europe was only presented on the global scene as an economic power. • With the Treaties of Maastricht (1992) and Amsterdam (1997) the EU started to develop a Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP). LWBC

  44. The European Roman Empire Theory • The Union committed itself to defend its common values and shared interests to strengthen the security of the Union, to preserve peace and to strengthen international security in accordance with the UN Charter, to promote international cooperation and, last but not least, to develop and to strengthen democracy and the rule of law as well as the respect of human rights. LWBC

  45. The European Roman Empire Theory • It is true that pooling sovereignty in the area of foreign policy is still a sensitive issue for some but there is a new and widespread recognition that the problems of today's world can only be tackled by working together. • Today, the EU has a political and legal framework to adopt common strategies and decide on common actions in foreign and security policy. • Basic decisions still require unanimity of Member States whereas certain implementing decisions can be taken by a qualified majority. LWBC

  46. The European Roman Empire Theory • A new actor • The Amsterdam Treaty created a new actor in order to support the Council of the EU where all Member Sates are represented and where decisions on CFSP are prepared and implemented.
The role of the Secretary-General of the Council of the EU was extended to include the post of High Representative of CFSP. LWBC

  47. The European Roman Empire Theory • This is the position which I have been holding now since 15 October 1999. • The Presidency of the Union rotates among Member States every six months. • My task as High Representative is to ensure continuity and coherence of CFSP and to assist the Presidency and the Council to that effect. • The High Representative plays an important role in the external representation of the Union. • He can be mandated to conduct the political dialogue with third parties. LWBC

  48. The European Roman Empire Theory • I work closely with the Presidency and with other institutions in particular the Commission. • But I also depend on close cooperation with all Member States. • An effective CFSP has to have the broad support of all 15 Member States by definition. • But each one can make specific contributions according to its particular experience or expertise. LWBC

  49. The European Roman Empire Theory • The decisive Balkans • The creation of the post of High Representative is itself evidence of the commitment throughout the Union to developing a CFSP. • There is now a remarkable degree of consensus in support of this objective. • I find it encouraging that much of the momentum comes initially not from politicians but from the man or woman on the street. • Ordinary people are not so interested in processes and treaties. • They want Europe to be able to deliver on tackling such issues as terrorism and drug-trafficking. LWBC

  50. The European Roman Empire Theory • They want us to be able to support democratic government, to defend human rights and the rule of law. • To make the world more secure and more stable. • If we want to find regions where stability and peace are still far from guaranteed we do not have to look far. • The Western Balkans lie on the very doorstep of the European Union. LWBC
