Enhancing Crop Yield Prediction at Country Level Using Growing Season Data

This study aims to determine the relationship between yield and growing season precipitation-to-potential evapotranspiration ratio, and estimate crop yield enhancement at a country level. Gridded data will be used to estimate yield in individual grid cells and calculate country-level production with a 100 ppm increase in [CO2].

  1. Country-level, growing season average P/PET Country-level yield 1. Determine the relationship between yield and P/PET. Yield model 2. Use gridded growing season P/PET to estimate yield in each grid cell. Gridded yield data 3. Use published CFE estimates for major staple crops to estimate yield enhancement in each grid cell, and sum all cells for a country to estimate production.
