Ideas to Plastic correctly Product to Market quickly
Overview • Wayt Technologies is a thermoplastic injection molder in Oakland, Ca. providing prototype, pre-production and lower volume components. • 75 ton to 500 ton presses • Up to 80 ounce shot size • Wide variety of materials • Glass filled Nylons • Lens grade Lexan • PBT • PC/ABS • Secondary operations • Paint • Inserts • EMI shielding • Sub-assemblies including machined metal parts
Why Use WAYT? • Our strength is in the management of projects. We strive to gain a clear understanding of the project requirements and to design an effective tooling and molding plan unique to each project. • Cut aluminum tooling is faster and more economical than steel for initial production and prototype parts. • Hand loaded slides mean flexibility for revisions. • Tooling can be designed for future expansion into bridge tooling that is able to make additional parts at competitive costs. • WAYT has the resources to provide unique solutions to thermoplastic needs. • Lost-core • Over molding • creation and molding-in of specialty inserts
Examples of Projects • Here are some examples of different applications that WAYT has helped customers with. • We believe each customer’s project has unique needs. WAYT does not change your project to meet our methods, instead we provide the solutions and resources to meet your challenges. • A hands-on project manager is assigned to your parts. They work with your engineering and support staff to make sure the project meets the schedule and functional requirements.
Lens Grade Lexan Compaq / HP • These parts are used in a low volume unit, 50 units per month. • Material used is lens grade Lexan. • WAYT has one 75 ton machine dedicated to clear Lexan.
Structural Nylons Forklift Manufacturer • Testing plastic parts as replacements where metal have been used in the past. • These parts are used in fatigue and stress-to-failure to prove the application of the material. • Note the machined clearance area. • WAYT provided this as a solution to test a revision without the higher cost of machining the mold.
Structural Nylons Forklift Manufacturer • Production quality parts needed before the production mold was complete. • WAYT shipped parts 2½ weeks after the 3D data base was received. • The total project cost was under $5300.
Consumer Products • The customer required the product for introduction to stores in time for Christmas. WAYT delivered first articles in 4 weeks. • Two significant changes were made in the molds to correct design challenges / issues. • The mold was made so that hot runners and automatic ejection could be added to the mold at a later date; allowing the prototype mold to make up to 7,500 parts.
Military Applications • Handheld unit for military / governmental uses. • The initial order was for a total of 250 units. The unit is being re-designed based on test data from WAYT built units and to take advantage of generational change in the internal electronics. • There are a total of 10 base parts (Top, Bottom, Battery Housings and internal buttons, light pipes, lenses) and another 12 add-ons. • The units are supplied with secondary operations as required; including inserts, paint and EMI shielding. • Note the overmolding with a low durometer material. WAYT has in-house capability to overmold plastic as well as metal parts.
New Market Products Truck Instrumentation Manufacturer • The customer is introducing a new product line to their existing customer base. • There are a total of 5 different tightly fitted parts that make up this unit including plated parts. • The same tools that were made to provide presentation models will be used to make production parts as the market needs grow.
