  4. a. ‘We sat there… talking about Kahu and how beautiful she was, both inside and outside. She had no guile. She had no envy. She had no jealousy.” (Rawiri. p.82) We learn from this that Kahu has special qualities that make her stand above other ordinary people. These qualities may be the reason why she has the unique bond with the whales. They are also qualities that make a great leader because they are unselfish.

Both represent the ‘older’ generation of the iwi/ tribe, but their attitudes are completely different.
