  2. What is a Motor Programme? • Motor Programme is a set of movement patterns • Stored in the Long Term Memory (LTM) • Contains all the information required to perform a movement/skill

  3. Parts of a Motor Programme? • Executive (Main) task – Whole Skill • Sub Routines (Parts) – Coaching Points High Jump This is the whole skill Jump Landing Take off Flight These are the subroutines

  4. Definition • A phase of a movement pattern which must be completed at the correct time in a sequence to complete the skill successfully.

  5. More on Motor Programmes… • A motor programme is formed by PRACTICE!!! • Repetition causes effective actions to be stored • The net/end result is a perfect image • 

  6. Why subroutines are good… • Help correct a certain area of a skill/movement • Useful to coaches when helping correct a movement, useful for feedback • Example: • Tennis serve: focusing on ball toss.

  7. QUICK QUESTIONS… • What are the differences between the motor programmes for a cognitive & associative learner? • More developed motor programme for associative learner as they have knowledge of the skill • Simple for a cognitive learner as they have not practiced the skill • How might knowledge of motor programmes help a coach when planning a training session? • Know which subroutine to work on • What is a subroutine? • A phase of a movement pattern which must be completed at the correct time in a sequence to complete the skill successfully • Suggest how the high jump event may be divided into subroutines • Run-up; take off; flight; landing
