  1. The Passion of the Cross The preaching of the cross is so very important to those desiring to embrace true Christianity

  2. The Cross Is The Power of God “For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” 1st Corinthians 1:18

  3. Importance of the Cross The Apostle Paul states: “For I determined not to know any thing among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified.” 1st Corinthians 2:2 Also Galatians 2:20 Galatians 6:14.

  4. Beloved Song “On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross The emblem of suffering and shame And I love that old cross where the dearest and best For a world of lost sinners was slain. So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross ‘Til my trophies at last I’ll lay down; I will cling to the old rugged cross, And exchange it some day for a crown.” George Bernard

  5. Passion for the Cross Isaac Watts blessed the world with: “When I survey the wondrous cross On which the Prince of Glory died, My richest gain I count but loss, And pour contempt on all my pride.”

  6. Justice of God Was Satisfied God is holy and a God of justice The 10 Commandments are the expression of a perfect God. Man is sinful and can not be perfect The sacrifices picture what Christ did to redeem mankind on the cross

  7. The Day of Atonement The high priest must first be cleansed He offered the sacrifice for the sins of the people The blood of the sacrifice was caught and sprinkled on the “mercy seat” in which the ark held the 10 commandments

  8. The Sacrifice of God The justice of God is satisfied by the blood of the innocent substitute This was a picture of the day His Son, the innocent substitute, would die. His blood would take away the sin of the world

  9. Prophecy Foretold the Cross “But He was wounded for our transgressions. He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement for our peace was upon Him; and by His stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray, we have turned every one to his own way, and the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.”

  10. God, Our Judge The 10 Commandments are His rule No man can attempt to measure up Christ satisfied the justice of God We will not be judged for our sin.

  11. The Cross Magnifies God’s Love The horrible crucifixion Jesus suffered shows the extent of the love of God The Apostle John writes, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son…” John 3:16

  12. The Cross Satisfies the Need for Salvation Man longs for peace with God Stuart Hamblen put it this way: “You were born to find God’s love Life has no other quest And Till your soul has found it’s goal Your heart can find no rest.”

  13. The Believer and the Cross At the cross the believer dies: • To his fear of God’s wrath… to peace • To the power of sin… to victory • To his old self-centered ways… to Christ’s ways • To his old hopeless life… to new life
