  2. A New Frontier for Education • This is an exciting time for CVUSD • First opportunity for the Online US History course and second time for the Online Health course • You are part of something special • These courses were designed for just for you!

  3. Benefits of Online Education • Independent learning and discovery • Intrinsic motivation to succeed • Work at your own pace • Work on the computer using technology • Trying something innovative

  4. Concerns of Online Education • Waiting to the last minute • We will give you a calendar to follow • Technical difficulties • You have 3 weeks to do the work, solve the computer problems quickly! Contact your instructor ASAP!!! • Lack of human interaction, isolation • We have forums where you will interact with the instructor and your peers ***Each of these issues are easily overcome if approached early***

  6. On-campus Requirements- First Semester Students: First Day of Class – Monday, June 21st All students report to TOHS at 11:00am in the PAC. You will have a short course introduction and receive your textbooks. Last Day of Class – Friday, July 9th Mrs. Cooper’s students report to Room E-7 at 8:00 am for your paper/pencil final exam Mr. Veres’ students report to Room I-11 at 8:00 am for your paper/pencil final exam Mr. Casillas’ students report to Room D-4 at 8:00 am for your paper/pencil final exam.

  7. On-campus Requirements- Second Semester Students: First Day of Class – Monday, July 12th All students report to TOHS at 11:00am in the PAC. You will have a short course introduction and receive your textbooks. Last Day of Class – Friday, July 29th Mrs. Cooper’s students report to Room E-7 at 8:00 am for your paper/pencil final exam Mr. Veres’ students report to Room I-11 at 8:00 am for your paper/pencil final exam Mr. Casillas’ students report to Room D-4 at 8:00 am for your paper/pencil final exam.

  8. Permission Slips 1. CVUSD Online Course participation agreement form (code of conduct) 2. CVUSD parent consent form for the Family Education Unit 3. Course Syllabus – student and parent need to sign! *You must get these forms turned into the Summer School Office at TOHS before you begin your course. **Tonight is a great time to complete them and turn them in to your instructor after the meeting!!!**

How to access the Online Site • Go to www.moodle.vcoe.org • Click on the Login Link in the upper right corner of the page • Username is the first and last name with NO SPACE (as registered) • Password will be your student number • Then click on “Login” • Select your course and click on link • This will only work currently for Semester 1 students – be patient Sem.2

Course Expectations • Complete each of the 11 “Days” which include: Textbook Reading, Practice Activities, Discussion Board Topics, Current Event Articles, Power Point Presentations, Hands-On Projects, Research Projects • Each day is in its own section. • The course is designed for you to complete the work in each section in a single day. After the day has passed the unit will be unavailable for you to complete and submit for grading.

Health Portfolio • There are 7 assignments that you will turn in on the last day of the course. #1- Current Events (one per day) #2 - ME Magazine #3- Food Diary #4 – Tobacco Awareness Poster #5 –Alcohol Awareness Poster #6 – Illegal Drug Brochure #7 – Communicable Disease Research Project *View table of contents and activity descriptions on the Moodle course site
