  2. Hydroelectricity • Water energy • Renewable • Doesn’t emit with green house gasses • Goes through a dam and turns a turbine therefore generating electricity • 3.3% of hydroelectricity is used in the US • The positive of hydroelectricity is that it is a reliable source of energy for places such as Las Vegas • The negative of hydroelectricity is that it must be located near a water source

  3. Solar Energy • Sun energy • We use solar panels to take the suns heat and turns it into electricity • 1% of US electricity is made from solar electricity • Takes away suns heat • Is renewable • Is a lot of money

  4. Wind Power • Is renewable • Wind turbines are used to generate electricity • As long as the suns shining wind power will be made, if not, we’re out of luck • Disturbs animal life

  5. Nuclear • Is non- renewable • Produces radioactive waste • E-mc2= atomic bomb • Matter is changed into electricity • Energy inside an atom • There’s tons of nuclear power • Atoms split and makes electricity • 20% of nuclear power is used in the US

  6. Geothermal • Made inside the earth • Is renewable • Costs more money to drill • Heat electricity • Is not radio active • .4% of geothermal electricity is used in the US

  7. Biomass • Made out of natural waste • Burned to make electricity • 4% of Biomass is used in the US • Very few refineries • Renewable

  8. Fossil fuels • It comes from dead plants and animals that died millions of years ago • It is changed into electricity in a refinery • 81% of fossil fuels is used in the US • Is nonrenewable and takes millions of years to form • We have a lot of it

  9. Energy Transformation • Energy Transformation is how something changes to electricity

  10. Experiment One

  11. Experiment Two

  12. Conclusion • I can turn wind energy into electricity • I can turn solar energy into electricity
