Learning Outcomes • Evaluate the importance of different business functions and show how they link together. • Work effectively in a team. • Develop and appreciate the academic skills and techniques necessary to be a successful undergraduate student. • Develop business skills, including presentation skills, emotional intelligence and meeting skills, use of spreadsheets

Objectives of Grad Challenge • You get to know us and each other really well • You get to feel part of Bucks Business School- not just your particular class. • You understand the basic rules of engagement such as research skills, referencing, report writing….. • You understand “business” as a whole not as a bunch of discrete functional departments • You develop your soft skills e.g. communication, team working, competitive spirit.

  15. Graduate Challenge- Relevance Boston Consulting Group predicts that by 2025 up to a quarter of jobs will be replaced by either smart software or robots. A study from Oxford University has suggested that 35% of existing UK jobs are at risk of automation in the next 20 years.

Soft Skills • Soft skills are worth an extra £88bn in increased productivity and reduced operating costs particularly in businesses that rely on "face-to-face human interaction". • These are skills such as communication, initiative, interacting with customers and team working. • A survey of 198 employers in the UK indicated, for graduates, being good at communicating, a team player, confident and analytical were all more important than having technical knowledge. (CBI 2014)
