Key Summary Points: • Katniss has just volunteered herself, in place of her sister, for the 74th annual Hunger Games. • While in the Games, she has to duke it out with 23 other tributes until there is a final victor. • This book follows her journey along with her fellow tribute, Peeta, in the quest of making it back to their families.

Mutations: • the changing of the structure of a gene, resulting in a varying form that may be transmitted to generations, caused by the alteration of single base unit in DNA, or the deletion, insertion, or rearrangement of larger sections of genes or chromosomes • In simpler terms: A change in DNA

  5. Mutations • Mutations occur on a daily basis • Mutations can cause common diseases such as cancer • Mutations can be good and bad • Mutations can be inherited, acquired, and man-made • Acquired mutations can’t be passed down • Man-made mutations are typically used for scientific research

  11. Connections To Life: • Mutations affect most people • Most people have mutated cells • If it doesn’t affect you directly it affects you indirectly • Mutations have to do with evolvement of species

  12. Book Review This book is a must read for all ages. If you have read it you should read it again because it sends a very powerful message that everyone should know.
